Lisa Kudrow Remembers Matthew Perry Through 'Friends' Reruns
Lisa Kudrow, renowned for her role as Phoebe Buffay in the iconic sitcom 'Friends,' is paying tribute to her late co-star and real-life friend, Matthew Perry. In a heartfelt revelation, Kudrow shared that nearly three years after Perry's passing, she continues to watch reruns of the series as a way to honor his life and legacy.
Matthew Perry's Legacy and Kudrow's Tribute
Matthew Perry, who portrayed the beloved character Chandler Bing, passed away on October 23, 2023, at the age of 54. His death left a profound void in the entertainment world and among his 'Friends' castmates. During an appearance on Capital FM, Lisa Kudrow opened up about how she copes with the loss.
"After Matthew passed away, there were marathons on TV, and that was really comforting watching the show," Kudrow said. She emphasized that the reruns not only provide solace but also bring joy, as Perry's performance remains a source of laughter. "He was so funny, I mean, the funniest," she added, playfully noting, "Sorry, everybody else, but just truly."
Kudrow's Reflections on the 'Friends' Cast and Filming Experience
While highlighting Perry's comedic genius, Kudrow made sure to acknowledge the entire ensemble cast, including Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc. "Everyone is making me laugh my a** off," she remarked, underscoring the collective talent that made 'Friends' a global phenomenon.
Reflecting on her time filming the show, Kudrow admitted that she rarely watched episodes during production. "I didn't watch every episode when we were shooting. I had a kid and none of us were," she recalled, explaining that the early airing times made it challenging. "It was, like, 'Oh, it's Thursday night at eight o'clock?' We were on too early."
The Healing Power of 'Friends' in a Chaotic World
Kudrow also touched on the broader significance of 'Friends' in today's world. As an actor, she avoids taking showbiz too seriously, but she recognizes the show's role as an escape. "You realize how important that kind of escape with a laugh that makes you feel good is," she explained. "It's just important," she added, describing it as a healing experience that offers respite from life's chaos.
The sitcom, which aired from 1994 to 2004 and comprised 236 episodes, continues to hold a special place in Kudrow's heart. Its enduring popularity underscores its impact on audiences worldwide, providing comfort and laughter across generations.
