It was only later, when I saw the film, that I thought — 'What was happening here?'" she laughs, reflecting on the creative process that defined the project.

Mahie's memories of filming Dev D include several unscripted moments that have stayed with her over the years. She fondly recounts an intimate scene with co-actor Abhay Deol where things took an unexpected turn. "There was a smoking shot where he kept coming closer and no one said 'cut'. I just kept saying 'Shivji, Shivji, Ram, Ram' under my breath," she shares, smiling at the innocence of that experience. "It was actually very cute," she adds.

What makes this theatrical re-release especially emotional for Mahie Gill is the significant passage of time—not just for herself but for her audience as well. "Back then, my friends' children were too young to watch the film. Now they're 18, 19, 20… they've seen it and they love it," she reveals.
For Mahie, this experience is deeply personal, representing a reunion with a film that fundamentally shaped her career trajectory. "Even today, people are calling me, making plans to watch it together. That kind of love… it means everything," she expresses with genuine emotion.

Currently on a shoot in Mumbai, Mahie Gill is organizing a special screening of Dev D at a local theatre with close friends and family members. "It will be fun to relive those moments," she says, highlighting the communal aspect of cinema that this re-release celebrates.
