Manav Gohil Addresses Propaganda Claims Against 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge'

Ranveer Singh's blockbuster film 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' has captivated audiences since its theatrical debut, drawing massive appreciation and record-breaking box office numbers. However, the political undertones depicted in the movie have sparked controversy, with some critics accusing it of serving as propaganda aligned with the ruling government's ideology.

Gohil's Defense: Cinema as Pure Creative Expression

In a recent interview with News18, actor Manav Gohil, who portrays Sushant Bansal in the film, firmly addressed these allegations. Gohil emphasized that cinema should be viewed solely as a medium for artistic creativity, unburdened by political or moral constraints.

"Cinema is purely a medium of creative expression," Gohil stated. "The moment you put the baggage of politics and morality on it, you're constraining its wings that otherwise let it fly."

He further elaborated that art and politics should not be merged, though he acknowledged that such blending is common in today's world. "People do it, but I can't have an opinion on that because that's just how the world functions today," he added.

Drawing Parallels with Hollywood

To bolster his argument, Gohil referenced the Hollywood film 'Zero Dark Thirty', which dramatized the CIA's hunt for Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. He pointed out that the international media did not heavily politicize that narrative, suggesting a double standard in how films are critiqued based on their origin.

"When 'Zero Dark Thirty' was made, they didn't make a comment on it. The international media didn't speak about the politics for a lot of other films," Gohil remarked, highlighting the selective scrutiny faced by certain productions.

Controversy as a Sign of Success

Gohil also offered a positive perspective on the ongoing debate, interpreting the discussion as validation of the film's impact and success. "It's said that when a friend speaks ill of you or discusses you, that means you're growing," he said. "In the same way, I feel it's a good thing that people are talking about our film, be it in a good or bad fashion."
