Mashhoor Amrohi's Uncanny Transformation in 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' Mistaken for Artificial Intelligence

Aditya Dhar's blockbuster film 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' continues to garner acclaim not only for its gripping narrative but also for its meticulous casting and character design. Among the standout elements is the audience's fascination with the striking resemblance of certain characters to real-life figures, particularly Mashhoor Amrohi's portrayal of Nawab Shafiq, a character inspired by Pakistan's former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif.

The AI Illusion: A Compliment Beyond Expectations

In an exclusive interview with Mid-Day, Mashhoor Amrohi disclosed that viewers were so convinced by his transformation that many believed the character was generated through artificial intelligence. "For me, the biggest compliment is that nobody believes it is me," Amrohi stated. "Some are saying that it’s AI. I had not anticipated this kind of adulation. There are memes and pictures all over the internet." This reaction highlights the film's success in creating a seamless blend of performance and visual artistry.

Mashhoor Amrohi, the grandson of legendary filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, has previously appeared in projects like 'Accused', 'Freedom at Midnight', and 'War', but this role has catapulted him into the spotlight for its technical brilliance.

Behind the Scenes: The Grueling Makeup Process

The actor detailed the extensive efforts required to achieve the director's vision. During the initial look test, the makeup team struggled to meet Aditya Dhar's specifications. "When we sat for the first make-up test, we didn’t quite achieve what the director wanted," Amrohi explained. "We had to depict the same body weight, face, and aging."

To overcome this, makeup artist Preetisheel Singh employed intensive techniques, with Amrohi enduring over eight hours of makeup application daily for four consecutive days. "For the weight, I had a bodysuit with a paunch," he added, revealing the physical commitment involved in bringing Nawab Shafiq to life.

Box Office Success and Cast Ensemble

'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', directed by Aditya Dhar, has achieved remarkable commercial success, grossing over Rs 519 crore at the box office within just five days of its release, including collections from paid previews. Industry analysts predict the film is on track to break records and set new benchmarks for Indian cinema.

The movie features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun. Released in theaters on March 19, 2026, it has quickly become a cultural phenomenon, praised for its innovative storytelling and technical prowess.

This blend of artistic dedication and audience engagement underscores the evolving landscape of Bollywood, where character authenticity and visual effects are increasingly pivotal to cinematic success.
