Mukesh Rishi Endorses 33% Women's Reservation in Parliament as Landmark Achievement

Veteran actor Mukesh Rishi has voiced strong support for the proposed 33% reservation for women in Parliament, describing it as a "very good" and long-overdue initiative aimed at enhancing female representation. His comments come just ahead of a special parliamentary session scheduled to take place later this month, where the Women's Reservation Amendment Bill is set for discussion and implementation.

A Milestone Decades in the Making

In an interview with ANI, Rishi expressed profound happiness over this development, characterizing it as a milestone achieved after years of persistent effort. "It is a matter of great joy. We have been trying for many years, and although it has taken time, we have finally reached this point. What was meant to happen is now happening," he stated, reflecting on the prolonged journey toward this legislative change.

Women Excel Across All Sectors

The actor, renowned for his role in 'Sarfarosh', emphasized that women have consistently demonstrated excellence in diverse fields, dismissing any notions of inherent limitations. "I am very happy that a 33% reservation is being introduced for women. I have no doubt that women are working in every field, whether it is medicine, sports, the army, or aviation, they are excelling in everything," Rishi affirmed.

He further addressed societal perceptions that have historically hindered women's progress. "The only limitation was the belief that they could not go beyond a certain point. It took time for society to realize that women can achieve anything." Rishi also highlighted women's achievements in sports, noting how their successes bring immense pride to the nation.

Education and Capability in Political Participation

Rishi underscored the critical role of education and capability in political engagement, asserting that women are well-prepared for leadership roles. "In politics, education plays a very important role. Today, women are educated and capable. There is no lack of knowledge or understanding," he explained, adding that women have already proven their leadership at the highest echelons of power.

To illustrate his point, he cited prominent examples: Indira Gandhi, who served as Prime Minister, and Droupadi Murmu, who currently holds the nation's highest constitutional office as President. These instances, he argued, demonstrate women's readiness and competence in governance.

Echoes from the Entertainment Industry

Echoing similar sentiments, veteran actor HimShivpuri had previously called the move overdue and stressed the importance of timely implementation in an interview with ANI. "Yes, this is a new step, but I think it should have been taken a long time ago. When it comes to our female population, I believe it is more than 33%," she remarked, emphasizing that women's contributions remain significant across all spheres of society.

Upcoming Parliamentary Session and Implementation Details

The remarks from these actors coincide with the upcoming special session of Parliament, scheduled from April 16 to 18, which will focus on discussing and implementing the Women's Reservation Amendment Bill. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the benefits of women's reservation will come into effect from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Additionally, he clarified that states with effective population control measures will not face any reduction in seats, ensuring a balanced approach to the reservation policy.

This legislative push represents a pivotal moment in India's political landscape, aiming to foster greater gender equality and representation in the highest decision-making bodies of the country.
