From Struggling Trainer to Bollywood Spotlight: Mustafa Ahmed's Unconventional Rise
Celebrity trainer turned actor Mustafa Ahmed has garnered significant acclaim for his portrayal of Rizwan, Hamza's trusted aide in the blockbuster film 'Dhurandhar 2'. However, his journey to this moment of recognition has been marked by immense challenges and unwavering determination, far removed from the glitz of Bollywood.
Early Struggles and a Life-Changing Encounter
Years ago, Mustafa was earning a mere Rs 10,000 per month as a gym trainer in Delhi's Janakpuri, a stark contrast to his later success. Nearly 15 years later, he would ascend to train superstar Hrithik Roshan, but his path was anything but straightforward. Like the protagonist in 'Taare Zameen Par', Mustafa battled dyslexia, which led him to drop out of formal education. On the Jag Of All Trades podcast, he reflected, "I was not a bright kid. I was dyslexic and come from an Afghani background. But I was always physical—I was good at sports, picked up dancing naturally. Anything that involved using my body, I was good at it."
At just 21, he secured a lucrative position as the youngest team leader at a call centre in 2001, earning Rs 1 lakh monthly—a dream for many. Yet, a pivotal moment at a Janakpuri gym altered his trajectory. He noticed a woman in her 40s being overlooked by a trainer and stepped in to assist her. Months later, she handed him an envelope, as he recounted on the Alpha Coach podcast: "It scared me. But in that letter, she wrote that working out had brought the spark back into her marriage. She told me this was my life calling—and not following it would be criminal." This message resonated deeply, prompting him to quit his high-paying job, despite criticism from his manager and estrangement from his mother.
Building a Fitness Empire and Breaking Barriers
Starting from scratch, Mustafa accepted a gym job in West Delhi for Rs 10,000 monthly, waking at 4 am daily. A visit to Fitness First in Connaught Place proved transformative. Despite lacking formal qualifications, his honesty and passion secured him a role with earnings of Rs 18,000 plus Rs 600 per session. He expressed disbelief: "I couldn't believe people would pay me that for an hour. That's when I felt—sky is the limit." Through sheer grit, he became Fitness First's top trainer in Asia within three months, conducting up to 14 sessions daily and earning over Rs 1.4 lakh monthly by 2009.
As his career flourished, Mustafa challenged the dominance of international trainers in India, questioning, "I believed I was at par with them. So why not me?" His vision expanded, leading to opportunities like training Hrithik Roshan, cementing his status in the fitness industry.
Emotional Debut in Bollywood and Lasting Bonds
Before 'Dhurandhar 2's release, Mustafa penned an emotional note to director Aditya Dhar in 2025, highlighting their profound connection: "'Main hoon na. Tu kar.' He would say this whenever I doubted myself. 'Tu theek hai na' when I wasn't okay. 'Tu khush hai na' when I got emotional." Reflecting on his acting debut, he added, "Aditya Dhar, you took me on a journey I never imagined. You saw in me what I didn't know existed. But most importantly, you gave me your friendship and love—and for that, you have my loyalty for life."
Mustafa Ahmed's story is a testament to resilience, from overcoming dyslexia and financial hardships to achieving fame in fitness and film. His journey inspires many, proving that passion and perseverance can defy all odds.
