Nagpur Brothers Triumph as MasterChef India Champions, Fulfilling Culinary Dream

In a heartwarming victory for regional talent, Nagpur-based brothers Vikram Gandhe and Ajinkya Gandhe have been crowned the winners of the latest season of MasterChef India. The prestigious cooking competition, judged by renowned chefs Vikas Khanna, Kunal Kapur, and Ranveer Brar, saw the duo overcome intense challenges to claim the title, marking a significant milestone as the first winners from Maharashtra in the show's history.

A Long-Held Dream Realized Through Perseverance

The Gandhe brothers, who operate a café in Nagpur, described their win as the culmination of a deeply cherished aspiration. "It was a dream from a long time ago that someday we would participate in MasterChef. We used to watch the show together and always felt that one day we should try it," Ajinkya revealed in an interview with Mumbai Mirror. Their opportunity materialized when this season introduced a novel format allowing pairs to compete, providing the perfect platform for their sibling synergy.

Vikram recounted the initial hurdles, stating, "In Mumbai, we got the apron but were kept on standby because there were some mistakes in the dish. Later, they gave us a chance from there, and that chance changed our lives." Once secured, the brothers embraced the challenge with determination. Ajinkya added, "Once we got the opportunity, we knew we had to prove why we were there. We like challenges and usually take risks in our cooking. The journey changed us as cooks and as people."

Transformative Lessons from Culinary Masters

Working alongside the three esteemed judges proved to be an invaluable educational experience for the brothers. Vikram highlighted the diverse insights gained: "From Chef Ranveer, there was so much to learn about the history of ingredients. From Chef Vikas, we learned innovation, and Chef Kunal taught us how to keep the tradition of food alive." Ajinkya expressed particular admiration for Chef Vikas Khanna's approach, noting, "I have been following Chef Vikas Khanna's innovation for a long time. The dishes he serves are close to Indian food, but he takes them to a global level and presents simple ingredients in a beautiful way. We want to do that."

The brothers emphasized that cooking is more than a profession for them—it's a therapeutic passion. "For us, cooking is like therapy. Even on bad days, we cook, and we genuinely enjoy feeding people," they shared. This genuine love for culinary arts fueled their performance throughout the competition.

Future Aspirations and Hometown Pride

The victory is set to propel their café and culinary visions to new heights. Vikram explained, "Earlier we were just Vikram and Ajinkya. Now we have the MasterChef tag, which gives us a platform and makes it easier for people to accept what we want to present. The learnings from the show will definitely reflect in our café." The judges' advice continues to guide them, with Ajinkya recalling, "One thing we were told was to never stop learning."

Beyond personal success, the win carries profound pride for their hometown and state. Ajinkya pointed out, "There has never been a winner or participant from Nagpur before, and in fact, there has never been a winner from Maharashtra. It is our responsibility to represent Nagpur and Maharashtra well." Vikram echoed this sentiment, adding, "If someone gets inspired through us, that will be the best thing." Their triumph not only celebrates individual achievement but also shines a spotlight on regional culinary talent, inspiring aspiring chefs across India.
