Nikhita Gandhi Stands By Badshah Amid 'Tateeree' Song Controversy
Renowned playback singer Nikhita Gandhi, celebrated for her hit collaborations with rapper Badshah on tracks like ‘Jugnu’ and ‘O Sajna’, has publicly voiced her support for the artist amidst the intense backlash surrounding his Haryanvi song ‘Tateeree’. The track faced severe criticism for its crude lyrics, abusive language, provocative dance moves, and imagery featuring girls in school uniforms, ultimately leading to its removal from various digital platforms.
Unfair Targeting and Misconstrued Intentions
In an exclusive interview with Variety India, Nikhita Gandhi expressed her sympathy for Badshah, stating that the controversy has been largely misinterpreted. She emphasized that the accusations against him do not reflect reality and highlighted the unfair nature of the targeting. "I think it's unfortunate that he's being targeted, to be honest," she remarked, pointing out that many other artists have engaged in inappropriate content without facing similar accountability.
Nikhita elaborated on her stance, noting that she typically avoids political conversations as an artist focused on creating music. "In my case, I'm not political or I don't get into these kind of conversations," she explained, underscoring her dedication to her craft rather than external controversies.
Artists Should Remain Apolitical
Drawing a parallel to keeping one's voting choices private, Nikhita Gandhi asserted that such views are highly personal and should not drag artists into political debates. She expressed dismay at how artists are often unfairly pulled into discussions beyond their professional realm, stressing that her primary role is to bring joy and happiness through music. "I hope Badshah is okay," she added, reflecting her concern for his well-being amid the uproar.
Badshah's Response: 'Tateeree Phir Se'
Following the widespread backlash, Badshah took proactive steps by releasing a revamped version of the controversial track, titled ‘Tateeree Phir Se’. In this updated release, he confirmed that the offensive elements have been removed, aiming to address the concerns raised by critics and the public alike. This move highlights the ongoing efforts within the entertainment industry to balance creative expression with social responsibility.
The controversy surrounding ‘Tateeree’ has sparked broader conversations about artistic freedom, accountability, and the intersection of entertainment with societal norms. As voices like Nikhita Gandhi's emerge in defense of fellow artists, it underscores the complex dynamics at play in Bollywood and the music industry at large.
