Rapper Offset Ambushed and Shot in Leg During Florida Casino Robbery Attempt
The FBI confirmed on Tuesday that rapper Offset was ambushed by a large group of individuals who attempted to rob him outside a Florida casino last week, resulting in him being shot in the leg. Federal investigators are actively searching for the suspects involved in the assault, which occurred last Monday night outside the Seminole Hard Rock casino in Hollywood, located just north of Miami.
Details of the Violent Assault
According to official statements, during the confrontation, a single gunshot was fired into Offset's leg. The assailants then made an unsuccessful attempt to steal the rapper's watch before fleeing the scene. Offset, who gained fame as a member of the influential hip-hop trio Migos, was hospitalized for several days following the incident. Despite the injury, he made a swift recovery and returned to perform at a music festival at the University of Arkansas on Saturday.
Police Investigation and Detentions
Following the shooting, police detained two individuals, but law enforcement has not provided evidence directly linking either to the attack. The suspects escaped in two Chevrolet SUVs heading in separate directions: a black Suburban fled toward Hollywood, Florida, while a Tahoe headed southbound toward Miami.
One of the detained individuals was rapper Lil Tjay, whose legal name is Tione Jayden Merritt. He was arrested in connection with an altercation that took place prior to the shooting, as stated by the Seminole Police Department in Florida. Lil Tjay faced charges of disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid license. His attorney, Dawn M. Florio, clarified to The Associated Press last week that Lil Tjay did not possess a firearm and was not charged with any weapons-related offenses. He was released after posting bond.
Offset's Career and Background
Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, launched his career with Migos, one of the most popular hip-hop groups in history. The Atlanta-based trio is renowned for their rapid-fire triplet flow, a distinctive style that has significantly influenced the trap music genre. Migos achieved multiple multiplatinum singles, including "Bad and Boujee," which topped the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as hits like "Stir Fry" and "Narcos." The group released four full-length albums during their career.
Tragically, more than three years ago, Offset's cousin Takeoff, another member of Migos, was shot and killed at a Houston bowling alley, highlighting ongoing violence in the entertainment industry.
