R. Parthiban Addresses Trisha Krishnan Remarks in Detailed Video Statement
Actor-director R. Parthiban has publicly addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding his comments about actress Trisha Krishnan during a recent award show. In an almost eight-minute video statement, the Ponniyin Selvan actor provided context for his remarks and clarified his intentions, while also responding to Trisha's allegations regarding a photograph display.
Background of the Controversy
The controversy erupted after Parthiban made a remark during the event that many viewers deemed inappropriate. Referring to Trisha's character Kundhavai from Ponniyin Selvan, he stated, "Indha Kundavaiye konjaneram kunthavaikkirathu nallathu (It is better to ask this Kundavai to sit at home for a while)." This comment quickly drew widespread criticism online, prompting a strong reaction from Trisha on social media platforms.
Trisha Krishnan's Response
After the clip circulated widely, Trisha Krishnan posted a pointed response on social media, criticizing the nature of the remark. In her message, the actress wrote, "A microphone doesn't make a comment intelligent or humorous. It just makes stupidity louder." This statement fueled further debate and public scrutiny of the incident.
Parthiban's Explanation and Clarification
In his video statement, R. Parthiban attempted to explain his perspective by distinguishing between a mistake and deliberate wrongdoing. He said, "A mistake is doing something unknowingly. A wrongdoing is doing something willingly. Let me be clear about both." He confirmed that Trisha's photograph appeared on screen while he was discussing actors Vijay and Ajith Kumar during the event, insisting this was not planned by him but acknowledging his emotional reaction upon seeing it.
According to Parthiban, "Yes, Trisha's photo came up when I was speaking about Vijay and Ajith at the Galatta event. I was shocked. I didn't plan it. But when it appeared, I said what I felt." He added, "I said it in anger. And I meant it." He also addressed discussions about Trisha's appearance at a wedding reception with Vijay, stating that some believed it had political implications for Vijay. Parthiban remarked, "Trisha is 40+ years old. She knew what attending Vijay's wedding reception meant for his political image. She should have stayed home."
Regret and Aftermath
Parthiban expressed regret over how his comment was interpreted, clarifying that he did not intend to suggest women should remain indoors. He explained that journalist Rangaraj Pandey warned him the remark might cause controversy, prompting him to ask organizers to delete the clip, though it had already spread online. Parthiban mentioned preparing a note of regret and recording a video for International Women's Day. He also reacted to Trisha's response, stating, "I was affected by a third person and her third-rated tweet (X post)." However, he emphasized he does not object to her right to criticize him.
Concluding his statement, he thanked supporters and affirmed his commitment to speaking the truth as he sees it. On the work front, Parthiban was last seen in Dhanush's film Idly Kadai.
