A 23-year-old woman died after being attacked with a battery by her husband in Outer Delhi's Tilangpur Kotla village on Friday. The husband, Vinay, later died after consuming aluminum phosphide tablets over suspicions of his wife having an extramarital affair, police said on Saturday.
Incident Details
The deceased were identified as Nisha (23) and her husband Vinay. According to police, a PCR call was received on Friday night about the incident. Responding officers found Nisha in critical condition with a severe head injury on the ground floor of a rented room.
Initial enquiries revealed that Nisha and Vinay had been married for 4 to 5 years and had a daughter aged about 2 to 3 years. The family had been living as tenants at the address for the past 6 to 7 months. Vinay was employed in a private job in the Uttam Nagar area.
Sequence of Events
Police said Vinay assaulted Nisha by striking her on the head with an Exide battery. After critically injuring her, he consumed "Sulphas" (aluminum phosphide) tablets. He then took his 3-year-old daughter and went to his mother's rented room at House Kotla Vihar, Phase-I, about 150 yards away.
Vinay disclosed the incident to his sister, Priya. According to the officer, Priya stated that Vinay said he had killed his wife because she was talking to someone on the phone, and that he had also consumed Sulphas tablets. He asked Priya to check on Nisha's condition.
Discovery and Response
Priya rushed to Nisha's rented room and found her lying in a pool of blood. She ran out of the house in panic, and neighbors alerted the police. Both Nisha and Vinay were shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital (SGMH), Mangolpuri. Nisha was declared dead by doctors.
Post-mortems of both the victim and the accused were conducted, and the bodies were handed over to the family for cremation. An FIR under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Police Station Ranhola. Further investigation is in progress, the officer added.
