Robert Pattinson Suggests Zendaya Played Key Role in His Dune: Part 3 Casting
In a surprising revelation, actor Robert Pattinson has shared that he believes actress Zendaya might have been instrumental in helping him secure a role in the highly anticipated film Dune: Part 3. The 39-year-old star, who appears alongside Zendaya in the upcoming movie The Drama, recalled discussing director Denis Villeneuve's epic sci-fi franchise with her on set.
On-Set Conversation Leads to Unexpected Opportunity
Speaking during the recent trailer unveiling for Dune: Part 3, Pattinson revealed details of his conversation with Zendaya, who plays Chani in the Dune series. According to Deadline, Pattinson told Zendaya, "I was talking to you on the set of The Drama. I was like, 'Can I get in one of those Dune movies?'"
Zendaya reportedly responded with the quip, "I know a guy." Pattinson expressed his surprise at receiving a call about the project months later, stating, "It was a very unexpected call a few months later. And I kind of did think you had something to do with it." The British actor's comments suggest Zendaya may have used her connections within the franchise to help facilitate his casting.
Pattinson Teases Mysterious Character Scytale
Robert Pattinson, who will portray the character Scytale in Dune: Part 3, offered intriguing insights about his role during the interview. He described Scytale as "an unusual character in the book" whose moral alignment remains ambiguous.
"When you can't really tell who side he's on, that's what makes it quite interesting," Pattinson explained. "I wouldn't say he was a kind of conventional bad guy as such. I don't think he is. He might even be a good guy. Who knows? I will also find out when I see the movie."
The actor expressed enthusiasm for the role, adding, "It's an extremely fun character to play and the look for it is quite incredible. Extraordinary." His comments highlight the complexity of the character and suggest audiences will be kept guessing about Scytale's true motivations throughout the film.
Denis Villeneuve Reveals Major Time Jump and Different Tone
Meanwhile, writer and director Denis Villeneuve provided significant details about the narrative direction of Dune: Part 3. He confirmed the film takes place 17 years after the events of Dune: Part Two, creating a substantial temporal gap in the story.
Villeneuve emphasized this installment will be "very different" from the previous films in the series, though Timothée Chalamet's character Paul Atreides remains central to the plot. "It will be a very different film, very different, a 'Dune' movie, but with a different tone, with a different rhythm, with a different pace," the director explained.
He further described the upcoming film as "more action-packed and more tense, more muscular than the two others." Villeneuve elaborated on the thematic focus, noting the story explores "Paul dealing with the consequences of having too much power and him trying to figure out how to get out of this cycle of violence."
The director's vision suggests Dune: Part 3 will delve deeper into the psychological and political complexities of the Dune universe while maintaining the epic scale that has defined the franchise.
