Rajkummar Rao Breaks Silence on Drastic Physical Transformation for Upcoming Biopics

Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao has finally addressed the widespread social media buzz surrounding his recent appearance, where he was seen with noticeable weight gain and grey hair. The actor, who faced both trolling and concern from fans after attending the Bolti Khidkiyaan Short Film Festival in Mumbai, has clarified that his altered look is entirely intentional and part of his dedication to his craft.

Transformation for Ujjwal Nikam Biopic Involved Significant Weight Gain

In a detailed social media post, Rao revealed that he has undergone a substantial physical change for his upcoming biopic on renowned public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. The actor specifically mentioned gaining 9-10 kilograms for the role, achieved through a deliberate diet that included consuming two pizzas daily along with sweets, aloo parathas, and biryani. Rao emphasized his preference for achieving authentic looks through hard work rather than relying on prosthetics, stating this approach has been consistent throughout his career.

"My being is through my Art," Rao wrote alongside a collage featuring Ujjwal Nikam and Sourav Ganguly. "Just finished shooting for my next Biopic #NIKAM and yes, it has demanded me to change physically which I love doing. I’m not a believer in prosthetics as long as I can achieve the look through my hard work."

Transition Phase Begins for Sourav Ganguly Biopic Preparation

The actor has now entered what he describes as a "transition phase" where he must shed the extra weight to prepare for his next project—a biopic on former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. Rao expressed his commitment to transforming his body once again, highlighting his dedication to engaging and entertaining audiences through his work. "And now it’s the transition phase and time to lose these extra kgs and get ready to slip into Ganguly mode. Our very own Dada," he added.

Career-Long Commitment to Authentic Portrayals

Rajkummar Rao reflected on his history of physical transformations for various roles, mentioning past projects where he faced similar challenges. He recalled being advised against going half-bald for the film "Bose", losing significant weight for "Trapped", and maintaining character as a visually impaired person even off-camera during "Srikanth". The actor stressed that these demanding changes are integral to his artistic process and belief in authentic representation.

The Ujjwal Nikam biopic, directed by Avinash Arun, focuses on the life of one of India's most prominent public prosecutors, known for handling high-profile criminal cases. Rao expressed hope that audiences will appreciate the hard work visible in the film upon its upcoming release.
