Rajnikanth Thanks All for Condemning TVK Leader's DMK Threat Remarks

Rajnikanth Expresses Gratitude Amid Political Controversy Over Alleged DMK Threats

In a significant development from Tamil Nadu, legendary actor Rajnikanth on Tuesday publicly thanked numerous political figures, colleagues from the film industry, media professionals, and his devoted fanbase for condemning what he described as "slanderous remarks" made by TVK functionary Aadhav Arjuna. The controversy centers on Arjuna's claims that the ruling DMK family threatened Rajnikanth when he attempted to enter politics, allegedly preventing his political debut.

The Actor's Heartfelt Appreciation

Taking to social media platform X, Rajnikanth posted a detailed message of gratitude that read: "I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who condemned his slanderous remarks and raised their voices in support of me." The actor specifically mentioned an impressive array of political leaders spanning multiple parties, demonstrating the cross-party respect he commands.

The list of thanked individuals includes:

  • Edappadi Palaniswami, Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly
  • Nainar Nagendran, Tamil Nadu BJP President
  • L. Murugan, Union Minister
  • Raghupathy, Tamil Nadu Minister
  • Thol. Thirumavalavan
  • S.P. Velumani
  • Annamalai, referred to as "my friend"
  • Arjunamurthy
  • Anbumani Ramadoss
  • G.K. Vasan
  • John Pandian
  • Pugazhendhi

Rajnikanth further extended his appreciation to film industry friends Ameer and G. Dhananjayan, media personalities Nakkeeran Gopal and Rangaraj Pandey (Chanakyaa), and most significantly, to his fans whom he reveres as deities. The actor concluded with a philosophical note: "Time doesn’t speak, but it waits and gives the answer."

The Controversial Remarks That Sparked Outrage

The controversy originated from statements made by TVK functionary Aadhav Arjuna during protests organized by his party across Tamil Nadu district headquarters last Thursday. These demonstrations accused the state government of failing to maintain law and order.

Speaking at a Chennai protest attended by TVK functionaries N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, and Arun Raj, Arjuna made explosive claims about Rajnikanth's political aspirations. He asserted that after the legendary MGR, Rajnikanth was among the most popular actors who intended to enter Tamil Nadu politics with the aim of changing the system.

"However, the DMK family issued several threats to Rajnikanth and prevented him from entering politics," Arjuna alleged. "See what happened now… At the end, he went on to act in a film produced by Red Giant."

Arjuna clarified that his comments weren't personal criticism of Rajnikanth but rather highlighted what he perceived as Vijay's greater mental fortitude. "Even when personal criticism was directed at Vijay, he did not remain silent at home in fear," he added, contrasting the two actors' responses to political pressure.

Widespread Condemnation Across Political Spectrum

The remarks triggered immediate backlash from multiple quarters, particularly from Rajnikanth's extensive fan network. S Ravi, a fan club member from Sholingur, defended the actor's character: "Rajinikanth is not someone who fears threats — everyone knows that. At a time when the coronavirus was spreading severely, he stepped away from politics considering the infection risk that gatherings could pose to the public and to avoid loss of lives due to the virus."

Ravi further emphasized: "Not everyone who gathers crowds can become a leader," subtly addressing the comparison between Rajnikanth and Vijay.

Political leaders were equally swift in their condemnation. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami posted on X: "Superstar Rajinikanth commands immense respect across spectrum for his abilities and talent. A TVK party functionary's attack on such a personality is unacceptable."

EPS elaborated on the principle of political choice: "Entering politics is one's right, as is staying out. He (Rajinikanth) cited valid reasons for staying out. Respect that choice; politicising it is political incivility." He also noted that the actor had earned both MGR's love and J. Jayalalithaa's respect during his career.

BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran echoed these sentiments, highlighting Rajnikanth's five-decade cinematic legacy and cross-cultural appeal. "It is unacceptable for Mr Aadhav Arjuna to speak wrongly about such a dignified personality in public," he stated.

Nagenthran pointed to Rajnikanth's prestigious honors including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan, as well as the respect he commands from national leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP leader called upon TVK president Vijay to intervene, urging him to "condemn such remarks and advise him not to engage in such actions."

Fan Clubs Mobilize Political Response

The controversy has galvanized Rajnikanth's fan base into political action. Fan clubs in Madurai have announced their intention to contest against Aadhav Arjuna in the 2026 elections with the explicit goal of defeating him and demonstrating Rajnikanth's enduring influence and strength.

This development underscores the unique intersection of cinema, fandom, and politics in Tamil Nadu, where film personalities have historically wielded significant political influence. The episode also highlights the sensitive nature of political discourse involving beloved cultural icons in the state.

As the situation continues to develop, Rajnikanth's measured response—focusing on gratitude rather than direct confrontation—has been noted by political observers as characteristic of his public persona. The actor's reference to time providing answers suggests he may be taking a long-term perspective on the controversy, even as his supporters and political allies mount a vigorous defense of his legacy and personal integrity.
