Delhi High Court Grants Interim Bail to Actor Rajpal Yadav in Rs 9 Crore Debt Case

The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav until March 18 in connection with a long-standing Rs 9 crore debt and cheque bounce case. The temporary relief was specifically allowed so that the actor can attend his niece's upcoming wedding ceremony, providing him with a brief reprieve from his legal troubles.

Court Conditions and Family Reaction

The court has directed Yadav to mark his presence either physically or through virtual appearance during this interim bail period. This condition ensures judicial oversight while allowing the actor to fulfill family obligations.

Following the court's decision, the actor's brother Chandrapal Yadav spoke to media representatives on Monday, February 16. He told IANS, "We have no complaints. Whatever days we had, our good days are yet to come. That is all we will say for now." The statement reflects the family's cautious optimism amid ongoing legal proceedings.

Upcoming Public Address and Manager's Statement

Reports indicate that after walking out of Tihar Jail, Rajpal Yadav is preparing to address the controversy publicly. His manager, identified as Goldie, confirmed to Hindustan Times that the actor will soon speak out about the situation.

"He will soon hold a press conference to address the issue and talk about it. It will happen in a day or two. Till then, we cannot say anything more," Goldie stated, suggesting that Yadav plans to present his perspective on the legal matter directly to the public and media.

Background of the Legal Case

The legal trouble traces back to 2010 when Yadav reportedly borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial venture, ‘Ata Pata Laapata.’ The film failed commercially, and alleged defaults in repayment eventually escalated into prolonged legal proceedings that have continued for over a decade.

In 2018, a magistrate court found Rajpal Yadav and his wife Radha guilty in the cheque bounce case, sentencing him to six months in jail. The conviction was later upheld by a sessions court in early 2019, prompting Yadav to move the Delhi High Court in appeal.

Recent Legal Developments

In June 2024, the High Court had temporarily stayed his sentence and instructed him to take "sincere and genuine measures" to clear the nearly Rs 9 crore outstanding amount. However, on February 2 this year, the court directed him to surrender, observing that he had repeatedly failed to fulfill his repayment commitments.

The current interim bail represents a temporary pause in these enforcement actions, allowing the actor to participate in a significant family event while the larger legal issues remain unresolved.
