Rajpal Yadav Sets Record Straight on Education After Priyadarshan's Controversial Remark

Following his recent release from incarceration in a cheque-bouncing case, veteran Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has expressed profound hurt over comments made by his frequent collaborator, director Priyadarshan. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, Yadav directly addressed the filmmaker's suggestion that his legal troubles originated from a "lack of education," providing detailed clarification about his academic background.

Clarifying Educational Credentials and NSD Background

Responding to the implication that his legal challenges resulted from insufficient formal schooling, Rajpal Yadav promptly established his educational qualifications. The actor revealed he is not merely college-educated but also a proud graduate of the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD), one of India's most respected theater institutions.

"I respect Priyanji immensely, but I cannot comprehend how or why he made this statement," Yadav stated emphatically. "I possess degrees that validate my education. When I embarked on my acting career, I didn't carry my educational certificates to film sets. This profession doesn't prioritize educational qualifications. Priyanji and I have never discussed my academic background. Why would he make such a comment?"

Gratitude Toward Three Influential Directors

Despite the friction generated by Priyadarshan's remark, Yadav reflected on his extensive career and the three directors who fundamentally shaped his professional journey: Ram Gopal Varma, David Dhawan, and Priyadarshan himself. Having collaborated on approximately 50 films collectively with Dhawan and Priyadarshan, Yadav emphasized the complete trust he placed in these filmmakers, frequently working without financial negotiations.

"Three directors have my eternal gratitude," Yadav shared. "Ram Gopal Varma provided my initial breakthrough, followed by David Dhawan and Priyadarshan. I've worked repeatedly with these two directors, unquestioningly fulfilling their creative requests. Cumulatively, I've completed 40-50 films with them. We've never discussed monetary compensation."

When questioned about why a prominent director like Priyadarshan didn't assist him during his financial crisis, Yadav defended the filmmaker's privacy. "Please understand, this isn't his concern," he noted. "This matter involves only three individuals: the two complainants and myself. All three hail from my native Shahjahanpur. This situation traces back to my residence in Shahjahanpur. I'm confident it will be resolved shortly."

Life Lessons from Farming Background and Incarceration

Yadav recounted a poignant anecdote about his father, an agriculturist who prioritized integrity over effortless achievement. His father instructed Rajpal's tutors to award passing grades only if genuinely deserved, preferring his son remain a farmer otherwise.

"My father was uneducated in the conventional sense—he never attended school or college," Yadav reflected. "As a farmer, he told my tutor to pass me only if I merited it. Otherwise, he said I'd be content as a farmer. He was absolutely correct. I'm essentially a farmer who transformed into an actor."

Yadav added that while prepared to present his certificates to Priyadarshan, he believes experiential learning surpasses formal education. "I consider life the ultimate educator," he remarked. "This doesn't imply I lack formal education. I'm willing to show Priyanji my certificates."

Future Outlook and Professional Projects

The actor maintains optimism about settling his debts and overcoming legal obstacles. He attributes his prison experience with teaching him the essential virtue of patience.

"The court's verdict is definitive," Yadav affirmed. "I'll comply with judicial directives. Regarding debt repayment, it will occur sooner rather than later. Incarceration taught me patience. One shouldn't take happiness or sorrow too seriously."

Looking forward, Yadav approaches each day as a perpetual student, eager to continue the educational journey that formal schooling initiated. Professionally, he will appear in Priyadarshan's 'Haiwaan' alongside Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, 'Welcome to the Jungle' with Akshay Kumar and Disha Patani, and 'Bhooth Bangla' featuring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan.
