Rajpal Yadav Surrenders to Tihar Jail in High-Profile Cheque Bounce Case
Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has surrendered himself to Tihar jail authorities following a Delhi High Court order in a long-pending cheque bounce case. The court dismissed his plea seeking additional time to clear outstanding dues, which total nearly Rs 9 crore across multiple cases.
Court's Stern Rebuke and Financial Demands
In a recent order, the Delhi High Court observed that Yadav was required to deposit Rs 1.5 crore in each of the seven separate cases filed against him. The court also directed that any amount already deposited with the registrar general be released to the complainant. However, when the actor failed to meet these financial obligations, the court refused to grant him more time and ordered his surrender.
The court delivered a sharp rebuke to Yadav during proceedings, stating, "You have gone to jail because you didn't honour your own commitment." Justice Sharma noted that on at least two dozen previous occasions, Yadav had made statements promising to honor his financial commitments and pay the money, but consistently failed to follow through.
Legal Proceedings and Bail Hearing
A bail hearing for the actor is scheduled for today, February 12. During today's court session, Justice Sharma instructed Yadav's counsel to reach a clear decision regarding payment arrangements. The matter will be taken up again at 2:30 PM.
The court highlighted a significant discrepancy in Yadav's legal strategy. While his counsel had previously assured that payment would be made directly to the complainant—a commitment Yadav himself had echoed before the bench—today his lawyers stated they would instead deposit the amount before the court.
Bollywood's Emotional and Financial Support
Meanwhile, the film fraternity has rallied behind the actor, offering both emotional and financial support. Before surrendering to authorities, Yadav made an emotional statement confessing he doesn't have any money and feels alone in this legal battle.
Several celebrities have since come forward with assistance:
- Mika Singh has offered Rs 11 lakh to help the actor
- Guru Randhawa has pledged financial support
- Sonu Sood previously extended assistance
- Gurmeet Chaudhary and music composer Rao Inderjit Yadav have publicly offered help
Family Response and Industry Solidarity
Rajpal Yadav's wife, Radha, expressed gratitude to those extending support during this difficult period. When asked about the industry's response, she told PTI, "Everybody has stood by him. The industry has been supportive, a big thank you to everyone who is coming out to help."
The case represents one of the most significant legal challenges faced by a Bollywood personality in recent years, highlighting both the serious consequences of financial disputes and the solidarity within the entertainment industry during times of crisis.
