Ram Charan's Dramatic Physical Transformation for Peddi Unveiled
Four months after the vibrant Chikiri Chikiri song introduced audiences to Ram Charan as a rural cricketer, the latest glimpse from the upcoming film Peddi reveals a startlingly different side of the actor. Training in the rain with a heavy wooden gada, Ram Charan has unveiled a bulked-up, powerful frame reminiscent of a traditional pehelwan, signaling a major shift in his character's journey.
Intense Eight-Month Training Regimen Detailed by Director
In an exclusive conversation with Hyderabad Times, director Buchi Babu Sana provided intricate details about the rigorous process behind Ram Charan's new physique. "He put in immense effort, training every single day for almost eight months to achieve the exact physique we envisioned for a pehelwan," Sana revealed. The director emphasized that this discipline extended far beyond physical workouts.
"While observing Ayyappa deeksha, Ram Charan followed a strict vegetarian diet and completely avoided non-vegetarian food," Sana shared, highlighting the actor's commitment to authenticity and character immersion. This dietary discipline played a crucial role in sculpting the wrestler's body required for the role.
The Central Role of the Traditional Gada in Training
Central to this remarkable physical transformation is the gada, a traditional heavy wooden club historically used by Indian wrestlers for strength training. "Every pehelwan uses a mugdar for training. In Peddi, his character shares a strong, intrinsic connection with the gada, which he incorporates extensively into his workout routines," Sana explained.
The director further elaborated on how this training translates to screen action: "He trained extensively with the gada, and our fight sequences naturally incorporate that training, along with authentic elements like mud and traditional wrestling setups to create genuine pehelwan aesthetics."
Mystery Surrounds Character's Primary Sport
While the dramatic pivot from cricket field to akhara has left fans and critics speculating about the character's primary discipline, director Buchi Babu Sana maintains an air of deliberate mystery. "He plays a sportsman. What specific sport he excels in will be revealed exclusively in theatres, but I can confirm that wrestling forms a major, significant part of the film's narrative," he stated conclusively.
This transformation marks one of the most physically demanding roles of Ram Charan's career, showcasing his dedication to character authenticity and physical preparation. The juxtaposition between his earlier cricket portrayal and this new wrestler avatar has generated substantial anticipation for Peddi's theatrical release.
