Rani Kapur Escalates Legal War Over Rs 30,000 Crore RK Family Trust
The simmering dispute surrounding the massive Rs 30,000 crore RK Family Trust has erupted into a full-blown, high-stakes legal confrontation. Rani Kapur, the matriarch of the family, has publicly challenged the actions of her daughter-in-law, Priya S Kapur, including her own removal from the trust's management. In a powerful declaration, Rani has reiterated her unwavering commitment to fight relentlessly until the very end to safeguard the legacy meticulously built by her late husband and her only son, Sunjay Kapur.
A Mother's Profound Grief and Unyielding Resolve
In an exclusive and emotional interview, Rani Kapur, mother of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur, opened up about the intense legal battle with Priya Kapur. She expressed profound, heart-wrenching grief over the loss of her only son, Sunjay, who passed away in June 2025. Describing the period as "extremely traumatic," Rani revealed the deep personal toll, stating she requires sleeping pills to cope with the anguish of her loss and the ongoing conflict.
"It's been a very difficult time for the family, very traumatic for me. I lost my only son. I was always with him, I was living with him. We went on holidays. I was with him in the UK when he passed. I'm very emotional and very upset about it," she shared, adding that the family continues to struggle with the sudden void left by Sunjay's demise.
Firm Stand on Family Assets and the Sona Group
Rani Kapur made her position unequivocally clear: she will not permit Priya to assume control of the family's vast assets and properties. She specifically referenced the Sona Group and the family home in Delhi, asserting her foundational role in their creation and her determination to block any takeover.
"My husband built the factory and the work… the house was my own creation, and she now thinks that she owns everything, which is not going to happen as long as I am alive. I'm not going to let her do that," Rani stated firmly. She emphasized that the RK Family Trust, established by her husband, must remain intact and unaltered, framing the legal fight as a defense of her family's heritage.
Trust in Legal System Amid Personal Disappointment
While expressing sadness over her son's marriage to Priya, Rani Kapur placed her faith squarely in the Indian judicial system to resolve the dispute. She articulated a belief that the law will prevent what she perceives as an unjust seizure of family wealth.
"It's sad that he married this girl. That's all she wanted. And now she thinks that she can take over. It's not possible. There is a law in this country. The law exists, and I have to have her out of my life," she remarked. Currently residing in Mumbai, Rani also disclosed that she has been unable to return to her Delhi home to retrieve her personal belongings, adding another layer to the personal strife.
Enduring Bond with Karisma Kapoor and Grandchildren
Despite the intense friction within the family, Rani Kapur highlighted the enduring warmth of her relationship with Sunjay's ex-wife, actress Karisma Kapoor, and their two children, Samaira and Kiaan. She painted a picture of continued familial closeness that transcends the current legal tensions.
"I've always had a good relationship with Karisma; she has grown up in this house. The girls have grown up together… I still meet her all the time. I go on holidays with her and the kids… I love Samaira and Kiaan; they are my grandchildren," Rani shared, underscoring a supportive network that remains separate from the trust dispute.
The legal battle over the RK Family Trust continues to unfold, representing not just a fight over immense wealth but a deeply personal family conflict marked by grief, legacy, and unwavering determination.
