From Darkness to Stardom: Ravi Basrur's Emotional Revelation at Cult Teaser Launch
The thunderous background score of KGF: Chapter 1 that made "Salaam Rocky Bhai" an iconic cultural moment was crafted by composer Ravi Basrur, who has become one of the most sought-after names in Indian cinema. However, his journey to success began in profound darkness, as he revealed during an emotional event.
A Gesture That Brought Tears: The Rolex Watch Honor
At the teaser launch of the upcoming Telugu film Cult, Ravi Basrur was honored on stage in a deeply moving ceremony. Actor-director Vishwak Sen surprised the composer by presenting him with a Rolex watch in front of assembled media, a gesture that left Basrur visibly emotional and struggling to hold back tears.
Speaking at the event, Ravi reflected on his twenty-five-year journey in music composition. "I have 25 years of experience. I have always tried to give good music to good people. Today, with this honour, he has appreciated my soul. He appreciated my dedication towards music. It is not just a watch, it is an appreciation for musicians," the composer stated with heartfelt emotion.
The Darkest Chapter: Suicide Attempts and a Life-Saving Intervention
What followed stunned everyone present as Ravi Basrur opened up about his traumatic past. "I had attempted suicide twice by the age of 18. I didn't want this life. However, I was saved both times," he revealed with raw honesty.
The composer shared the pivotal moment that changed everything: "The man who saved me the second time heard my music, bought me a keyboard, and gave me Rs 35,000. That day, I changed my name to Ravi—it was the name of the man who saved my life."
This intervention marked a dramatic turning point. From that moment of despair, Ravi Basrur transformed his life and eventually composed music for blockbuster films including KGF: Chapter 2, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, and Kabzaa, establishing himself as a major force in Indian film music.
Gratitude and Recognition: A Lifelong Debt
Thanking Vishwak Sen for his recognition, Ravi added, "After that man, it is Vishwak Sen who recognised me—my journey and my soul. I will be indebted to him all my life."
The film Cult, which stars Vishwak Sen alongside Gayatri Bharadwaj and Murali Sharma, features music composed by Ravi Basrur. While the teaser has been unveiled, the official release date remains awaited by eager audiences.
Current Projects and Future Endeavors
Meanwhile, Ravi Basrur continues to expand his impressive portfolio. He is currently composing for the highly anticipated film Toxic: A Fairytale for Adults, starring Yash and directed by Geethu Mohandas. The project boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth in pivotal roles.
