Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has made headlines with his bold statements about his upcoming projects, particularly focusing on how 'Dhurandhar' and its sequel will reshape the cinematic landscape. Amid these declarations, Varma delivered exciting news that will thrill fans of the legendary Bachchan duo. In a recent revelation, RGV confirmed he is actively developing the fourth installment of the acclaimed 'Sarkar' franchise.
Details on 'Sarkar 4' Production and Cast
In an exclusive interview with Mid-Day, Ram Gopal Varma shared that the screenplay for 'Sarkar 4' is fully completed. He elaborated, "I am starting the shoot in mid-2026." When questioned about the star ensemble, Varma explicitly stated, "Both Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan will be a part of the film." However, he maintained secrecy regarding other cast members of this highly anticipated political thriller.
RGV further disclosed his ambitious timeline, aiming to conclude filming within a year. Following this, he plans to shift focus to his previously announced project, 'Syndicate'.
Evolution of the 'Sarkar' Franchise
The 'Sarkar' series has been a significant milestone in Indian cinema. The inaugural film, 'Sarkar', premiered in 2005 under RGV's direction. It featured an impressive cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Kay Kay Menon, Katrina Kaif, Tanishaa Mukerji, Supriya Pathak, Kota Srinivasa Rao, and Anupam Kher. Widely regarded as an unofficial adaptation of Francis Ford Coppola's 'The Godfather', the movie also sparked rumors that Amitabh Bachchan's portrayal was inspired by the late Shiv Sena leader Balasaheb Thackeray.
The sequel, 'Sarkar Raaj', released in June 2008, starred Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Supriya Pathak, Tanishaa, and Ravi Kale. 'Sarkar 3' arrived in May 2017 without Abhishek Bachchan, featuring Amitabh Bachchan alongside Yami Gautam, Jackie Shroff, Manoj Bajpayee, Amit Sadh, Ronit Roy, and Parag Tyagi.
With Ram Gopal Varma's latest announcement, the fourth installment is poised to hit theaters after a decade-long hiatus, marking a significant return for the franchise.
