Celebrated filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again ignited conversations with his unabashed admiration for the blockbuster film 'Dhurandhar'. The director, known for his candid opinions, has not only labeled the movie a groundbreaking success but has also teased that its upcoming sequel, 'Dhurandhar 2', is poised to send shockwaves through the Hindi film industry.
RGV's Fiery Endorsement on Social Media
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, Ram Gopal Varma shared a vivid metaphor for the film's disruptive influence. He stated that the southern film industry's incursion into Bollywood, which he termed a "fireball," was powerfully countered by director Aditya Dhar's project. "THE FIREBALL of the SOUTHIES invasion into BOLLYWOOD has been KICKED back by @AdityaDharFilms’ left foot, named #dhurandhar, and now his right foot is getting ready with #dhurandhar 2," RGV wrote.
He further intensified the anticipation for the sequel by adding, "From what I saw of the 2nd part, if the 1st SCARED them, the 2nd will TERRIFY them." This bold proclamation has set expectations soaring for the next installment, promising an even greater impact than the first.
Post-Release Praise and Industry Critique
Following the theatrical release of 'Dhurandhar', RGV has been one of its most vocal champions. He described the film as a "monstrous hit" that successfully broke conventional Bollywood rules. In a detailed post, he argued that pathbreaking successes often face willful ignorance from industry insiders who feel threatened by their unconventional standards.
"Whenever a pathbreaking and monstrous hit like #dhurandhar comes, the industry people will wish to ignore it because they will feel threatened by it due to their inability to match its standards," Varma explained. He believes the film has become an unavoidable benchmark, especially for the slew of big-budget, pan-India projects currently in production, which were conceptualized before 'Dhurandhar' redefined audience preferences.
RGV employed a striking analogy, comparing 'Dhurandhar' to a large, scary dog that one cannot ignore even when assured it is harmless. "#Durandhar will be like that monstrous dog, which will be invisibly pacing around in every production office wherever the upcoming biggies are being made," he wrote. He suggested that for makers reliant on old templates of VFX-heavy spectacles, item songs, and hero worship, 'Dhurandhar'—which shifts worship to the film itself—feels like a horror film.
The Unstoppable Force of 'Dhurandhar'
RGV concluded that Aditya Dhar is forcing the industry to introspect. "More than anything else, @AdityaDharFilms is forcing the industry people to look at their own films in the mirror in comparison to the beautiful-looking #dhurandhar," he stated. According to Varma, the film's success and pervasive discussion make it an indelible part of the current cinematic landscape, a force that will "be here to bite" whenever competing films release.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, 'Dhurandhar' has emerged as 2025's biggest box-office smash. The spy thriller features Ranveer Singh in the role of an undercover agent, with Akshaye Khanna portraying the character Rehman Dakait. Its commercial triumph and the fervent discourse it has generated, as highlighted by RGV, position it as a significant cultural moment, with the sequel already generating immense buzz.
