From Bollywood Stardom to Dubai Real Estate: Rimi Sen's Career Transformation
Former Bollywood actress Rimi Sen, best known for her role in the blockbuster film Dhoom, has made headlines with her candid revelations about leaving the Hindi film industry to pursue a career in luxury real estate in Dubai. In a recent podcast appearance, she opened up about the realities of Bollywood and her strategic move into property sales.
The Reality of Bollywood's Gender Imbalance
During her conversation on the Buildcaps podcast with founder Priyank Shah and veteran real estate businessman Ashish Sharma, Rimi Sen didn't hold back when discussing the challenges female actors face in Bollywood. "The film industry doesn't have a very long time span, especially for women," she stated bluntly. "Men continue to rule because it is a male-dominated industry. Even today, actors like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are leading films after 20, 25, even 30 years."
She contrasted this with the fate of female actors, noting that "the same heroines who once worked opposite them are now playing supporting roles or family members. Some of them are playing their on-screen mother as well now. The lifespan for women in this industry is very short."
Why Real Estate Became Her New Passion
Rimi Sen's transition from Bollywood to real estate wasn't accidental but rather a carefully planned strategic move. "Real estate is a stable business," she declared during the podcast. "Bollywood ka nasha khatam hogaya, real estate ka nasha chadh chuka hai" (I am done with Bollywood, now interested in real estate).
Her business acumen impressed even seasoned professionals. Ashish Sharma, the veteran real estate businessman present during the conversation, joked about her success: "Rimi ji kuch humaare liye bhi chorr do, saara Dubai nichodh diya aapne. Humein 18 saal laggye yahan tak pahuchne mein aur madam ne aake sab fodd dia" (Please leave something for us. It took us 18 years to reach here and she came and won everything).
Planning Her Exit from the Film Industry
Rimi Sen revealed that she had always approached her acting career with a business mindset. "From the beginning, I treated this as a business," she explained. "I knew how far I could go with dignity. After that, there is a decline — especially for women — and you have to look for another future prospect."
She compared fame to gambling, stating that "the intoxication of fame is also an addiction, just like gambling. Gambling itself isn't the problem – the intelligent person knows when to leave the table." This philosophy guided her decision to exit Bollywood at what she considered the right time.
A Strategic Career Move
Priyank Shah, founder of Buildcaps, praised Rimi's decision as "a strategic move at the right time." The former actress elaborated on her approach: "If you enter any business without a clear vision and just go with the flow, you will struggle your entire life. You'll keep working without direction and eventually feel exhausted."
Rimi emphasized that she was never addicted to fame, enjoying acting only while she received quality work. "When I felt I was being offered repetitive comedy films and wasn't satisfied, I had already planned my exit," she revealed. "I decided I would work, do events, films, earn money, and then move on."
After her acting career, she briefly entered production before fully immersing herself in Dubai's luxury real estate market, where she has found both stability and success in her new professional chapter.
