Russell T Davies' new television series 'Tip Toe' has become the talk of the town. The show features two gay neighbours whose boundaries and relationships are tested throughout. Davies recently gave a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the series and his aspirations for it.
Russell T Davies on Creating 'Tip Toe'
While speaking to the BBC, Davies opened up about how he addresses serious topics with a humorous touch in most of his shows. Detailing his process, he added, 'I see the world getting worse and worse these days, to be honest. I am very worried about the future for my nieces and nephews.' When asked if he hopes the show brings light to issues, Davies said he wishes we lived in such a reality. 'I wish television could change the world. I would have written more and changed it faster if I could. I do feel bound to comment on the world, though,' he commented further.
Davies also highlighted that one of the highlights of 'Tip Toe' is Alan Cumming leading the cast. He revealed that he had been attempting to cast the famous actor in one of his projects for the past 20 years.
Alan Cumming and David Morrissey Weigh in on Their Roles
Alan Cumming and David Morrissey, who lead the show, also opened up about their roles and working together. Discussing some of the challenging scenes, Morrissey stated, 'We have to do some pretty tough stuff, but the great thing about being with an actor who is a friend is that you can really push it.' Cumming added, 'As the series goes on and we all get to like everybody, and worry for them, you almost forget [I'm dead]. But we don't know how it happened, or when it happened in the story. It's really clever, it's suspenseful.'
What is the Plot of 'Tip Toe'?
The TV series follows Alan Cumming as Leo Struthers, a 59-year-old man who owns a bar in Manchester's Gay Village. David Morrissey plays Clive, an electrician and Leo's neighbour. Set in modern-day Britain, the show tackles themes of a violent, homophobic feud as the surrounding social strata begin to change.
