Sanjay Gupta Questions Ramayana VFX Team's Oscar Claims
Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has publicly responded to the teaser for the upcoming epic Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor. The director took issue with the makers' promotion of their VFX team, specifically calling out boasts about hiring a VFX giant that recently won an Oscar.
Gupta's Social Media Critique on VFX Awards
According to reports from IANS, Sanjay Gupta used his X account to clarify a common misconception in the film industry. He pointed out that VFX companies do not win Oscars; instead, the technicians working on the projects earn the accolades. In his post, he wrote, "Obvious observation. VFX companies don’t win Oscars. The technicians do." This comment was directed at the Ramayana team, which has enlisted DNEG, a VFX company that secured an Oscar for Best Visual Effects for Dune: Part Two at the 97th Academy Awards.
Previous Reaction and Netizen Interpretations
Earlier, after the release of the first teaser for Ramayana, Gupta posted a cryptic message: "KHODA PAHAAD… NIKLA CHUHA." Although he did not tag anyone, many netizens linked this post to the teaser, interpreting it as a critique of the hype versus the actual result. The phrase translates to digging a mountain only to find a mouse, suggesting that something created significant anticipation but ultimately disappointed.
Mixed Public Reactions to the Ramayana Teaser
The teaser has sparked diverse opinions among viewers. While some enjoyed the brief glimpse of the film, others criticized the VFX quality, with some even labeling it as Adipurush 2.0, referencing another recent mythological film that faced backlash for its visual effects. One social media user commented, "Adipurush dropped the bar so low that this might look cinematic to some. Otherwise, for a ₹4,000 crore film, it feels underwhelming. A few shots work, but most look AI-generated. Expected far better. Hope they fix it before the final release."
