Actor Sanya Malhotra, who made her impactful Hindi cinema debut with the blockbuster "Dangal" in 2016, has described her journey in the film industry as nothing short of surreal. As she marks a decade in Bollywood, Malhotra expresses profound gratitude for the opportunities she has received and hopes her future projects continue to resonate deeply with audiences.

New Netflix Comedy 'Toaster' with Rajkummar Rao

Malhotra now stars in the Netflix comedy film "Toaster", where she appears opposite the acclaimed actor Rajkummar Rao. This project holds special significance as it marks the production debut of Rao and his wife, actor Patralekhaa, through their newly established banner, Kampa Film.

The film's plot centers around a miserly character who desperately attempts to retrieve a toaster he gifted at a wedding after the ceremony is unexpectedly called off. Malhotra portrays the wife of this character, bringing her unique comedic timing to the role.

Reflecting on a Decade of Growth and Gratitude

In a recent interview with PTI, Malhotra shared her emotions about completing ten years in the industry. "Ten years... it's surreal. It's been amazing, quite fulfilling and I am so grateful for the opportunities that I get," she stated, highlighting the personal and professional growth she has experienced since her breakthrough role.

While Malhotra and Rao have previously collaborated on projects like "Hit: The First Case" and "Ludo", "Toaster" represents their first opportunity to work extensively together on set. "I was dying to work with Raj because we all know how incredible he is as an actor. And this was the perfect opportunity," Malhotra revealed, explaining her immediate enthusiasm when Rao approached her for the film.

Praise from Co-Stars and Director

Rajkummar Rao has lauded Malhotra's performance in "Toaster", calling it her finest work in the comedy genre. "She is so funny in the film. And we were so happy when we saw her performance... when you see her on screen in the film. She is marvellous," Rao commented, noting her ability to balance fun on set with focused professionalism.

Patralekhaa, stepping into her producer role, described Malhotra as a "riot" on the movie's set, emphasizing the positive energy and collaborative spirit she brought to the production.

Building on Critical Acclaim and Future Hopes

Malhotra recently earned widespread praise for her powerful performance in "Mrs", a remake of the critically-acclaimed Malayalam film "The Great Indian Kitchen". While grateful for the overwhelming love the movie received, she does not view it as pressure but rather as motivation.

"I just hope that all my other films and all the other projects that I'm doing will get the same kind of love and respect," Malhotra expressed, looking forward to her upcoming ventures with optimism.

Netflix's Vision for 'Toaster'

Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Original Films at Netflix India, highlighted that "Toaster" stems from Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa's distinctive creative vision and features a terrific ensemble cast. The film began streaming on the platform recently.

"It was especially exciting to see Vivek bring his visual sensibility as a director, while Patralekhaa stepped into the producer's role with such conviction. At Netflix, we're drawn to stories rooted in Indian realities and filled with characters audiences can instantly connect with... With its imperfect yet endearing characters and light, entertaining tone, 'Toaster' stands out as a delightful family entertainer," Sheikh explained, underscoring the platform's commitment to relatable, engaging content.

As Sanya Malhotra continues her journey in Hindi cinema, her role in "Toaster" adds another layer to her diverse filmography, promising audiences a fresh and entertaining experience.
