Saumya Tandon Expresses Missing Akshaye Khanna in Dhurandhar Sequel
Actress Saumya Tandon, who portrayed the character of Ulfath Rehman, wife of Rehman Dakait, in the Aditya Dhar-directed film 'Dhurandhar' starring Ranveer Singh, has reprised her role in the highly successful sequel 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge'. Amid the massive box office triumph of part two, Tandon openly shared her sentiments about missing her on-screen husband, veteran actor Akshaye Khanna, in the latest installment.
Reflections on a Brief but Powerful Role
In an exclusive interview with Variety India, Saumya Tandon delved into her limited yet impactful appearance in 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge'. The actress candidly stated, "I actually do not have much to do in 'Dhurandhar 2'. There is a scene of mine that has gone viral, but I wouldn't like to speak about it because I think I'd like them to see the movie first." She emphasized that the scene in question is exceptionally intense, taking place during Rehman Dakait's funeral, and required profound emotional depth.
Elaborating on her character's complex state, Tandon explained, "It's a very complicated scene because she's again very angry, and also she's kind of in a situation where she's questioning. And she's desperate." She further highlighted that for the 'Dhurandhar' film series, conveying emotions predominantly through eye expressions was crucial, adding a layer of subtlety to her performance.
Missing Akshaye Khanna's Presence
During the same conversation, Saumya Tandon expressed a heartfelt sentiment regarding Akshaye Khanna's absence from the sequel. She remarked, "Of course, as a viewer, I missed him a lot. He was so good in the first film. But then this is a story, and it progresses after his death." This comment underscores the narrative shift in the sequel, which continues the storyline following Khanna's character's demise, yet leaves a noticeable void for both the actress and audiences.
Tandon concluded her thoughts with an optimistic outlook, hoping that both 'Dhurandhar' movies would inspire and promote more diverse and high-quality content within the Indian film industry, fostering growth and innovation.
