Premise of 'Saving Private Ryan'

The film is set in 1944 during World War II in Normandy, France. The storyline follows Captain John Miller, played by Tom Hanks, as he leads a team of soldiers into unknown territory. They are sent on a mission to retrieve Private James Francis Ryan, played by a young Matt Damon, after all three of his brothers are killed in the war, leaving him the only surviving son of his family. The official synopsis reads: "After barely surviving the D-Day landings, Army captain Tom Hanks leads a small team of US soldiers to find and rescue a young private whose brothers have all been killed in action.
