Shreya Ghoshal's Emotional Reunion with Guru on Indian Idol During Birthday Week

Bollywood superstar singer Shreya Ghoshal was left deeply emotional when the Indian Idol stage orchestrated a special surprise for her during her birthday week. The episode, which celebrated the timeless music of legendary playback singers Mohammed Rafi and Mukesh in the presence of iconic composer Pyarelal Sharma, took an even more heartfelt turn as the show united Shreya with her first Guru, Mahesh Chandra Sharma, who laid the foundation for her impeccable singing career.

A Childhood Letter Resurfaces

As the episode commenced, host Aditya Narayan read aloud a poignant letter that Shreya Ghoshal had written to her Guru, Mahesh Chandra Sharma, when she was just a child. The letter, written in Hindi, expressed her early struggles and dedication to music. It translated to: "Namaste, I hope you are all well there. My classical training has not yet started here. Papa is trying to contact a good guru. After coming here, I was going to learn from Kalyan ji Uncle for a few days, but in between, I got jaundice, due to which I couldn't go to him for a month and a half. And I practice the ragas you taught me every day. Please accept my devoted salutations. Your blessed disciple, Shreya Ghoshal."

Listening to this heartfelt memory from her early musical journey, Shreya Ghoshal responded with nostalgia, saying, "I wrote this letter years ago to my Guruji, Mahesh Chandra Sharma."

A Surprise Appearance

Just then, a voice from behind surprised everyone on the set. It was Shreya's beloved Guruji himself, Mahesh Chandra Sharma, making an unexpected appearance. Responding to the letter, he said, "At that time, I couldn't reply to this letter, but today I definitely want to. People usually recognize disciples by the Guru's name, but I take pride in the fact that people recognize me by Shreya's name."

Overwhelmed with emotion, Shreya immediately came on stage and touched the feet of her Guruji, showcasing her deep respect and gratitude.

Revisiting Early Musical Struggles

The episode also revisited Shreya's early musical journey, with her sharing memories of her childhood training days. She recalled, "It used to be very hot in Rajasthan. There was a bus that took two to three hours of travel, and we had to cross jungles to get there."

She added, "From the bus station, there was a turn, then you had to take a right, and then your house would come. And when that house appeared, it felt like a temple to me." This reflection highlighted the sacred place her Guru's home held in her heart during her formative years.

A Precious Gift from the Guru

Adding to the emotional moment, her Guruji gifted her a diary where he had meticulously documented every lesson and composition he had curated over the years by himself. While presenting the diary, he said, "All the compositions from the beginning to the last class, I have brought this book for you. This is the earnings of my entire life."

Receiving the gift, a teary-eyed Shreya bowed down to seek her Guruji's blessings, visibly moved by the heartfelt gesture.

A Melodious Tribute

Moved by the reunion, Mahesh Chandra Sharma then requested Shreya to sing the song 'Bairi Piya' from the film Devdas. Honoring his request, Shreya delivered a melodious rendition in his presence, bringing the emotional episode to a beautiful close. This special Indian Idol episode not only celebrated music legends but also underscored the profound bond between a Guru and disciple in the world of Bollywood.
