In a significant crackdown on digital piracy, the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing has arrested six people for their alleged involvement in the illegal online leak of clips and scenes from the Tamil film 'Jana Nayagan', starring actor Vijay. This action follows legal proceedings initiated by the film's producers after unauthorized content surfaced on the internet.
Legal Action and Arrests Under Multiple Statutes
According to reports, the police registered a case under several key laws, including:
- The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
- The Information Technology Act
- The Copyright Act
- The Cinematograph Act
Officials revealed that the accused utilized cloud storage services and shared drive links to disseminate the movie illegally. All six individuals are currently in judicial custody as investigations continue.
Over 300 Illegal Links Taken Down in Anti-Piracy Operation
Authorities have successfully taken down more than 300 links associated with the pirated content. Special teams were formed to track these links and identify the uploaders, with digital evidence collected from the arrested suspects playing a crucial role in the operation.
The Cyber Crime Wing is maintaining vigilant surveillance on social media platforms, websites, and file-sharing applications to prevent further leaks and curb the spread of pirated material.
Production House Issues Stern Warning Against Piracy
KVN Productions LLP, the producers and exclusive copyright owners of 'Jana Nayagan', released a statement addressing the piracy threat. They emphasized that unidentified persons had illegally accessed, copied, and circulated scenes and clips from the film, posing a serious risk of digital piracy.
The makers have urged the public to immediately delete any illegal links and warned that strict legal action will be pursued against anyone found sharing the movie. The Cyber Crime Wing has also cautioned viewers against watching or distributing pirated content.
