Actress Sudipta Chakraborty observed Mother's Day this year under the shadow of personal loss, marking the occasion for the first time without her mother, Dipali Chakraborty, who passed away on April 2. The cause was a sudden cerebral haemorrhage. Her death came soon after that of Rahul Arunoday Banerjee. Dipali had been unwell and was rushed to the hospital.
Mother's Day Tribute
On Mother's Day morning, Sudipta shared a series of photographs on social media remembering her mother and the moments they spent together. The images included Dipali Chakraborty pictured smiling alongside well-known figures such as Mamata Shankar, Dev, and Rukmini Maitra, as well as an old photograph capturing her in her younger years. The post reflected the emotional weight of the day and the void left by her absence.
Stage Performance Dedicated to Parents
Despite the grief, Sudipta is set to perform on stage the same day, dedicating her performance of Binodini Opera to the memory of both her parents. Dipali Chakraborty was a respected Odissi dancer and teacher, and the wife of noted theatre personality Biplabketan Chakraborty, who passed away in 2018. After his death, Dipali took on the responsibility of supporting and guiding their three daughters—Bidipta, Bidisha, and Sudipta. All of them currently play a significant role in nurturing their journeys in the performing arts.
This Mother's Day, remembrance and resilience came together for the actress, as she honoured her mother's legacy while continuing her commitment to the stage.
