Actor Sunil Sharma, who portrays the character Shaukat in the blockbuster film Dhurandhar and its highly anticipated sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has described this project as a definitive turning point in his professional journey. He attributes this breakthrough to a combination of fortunate timing and unwavering persistence in the competitive world of cinema.
The Right Role at the Right Moment
"I firmly believe that everything in life happens for a specific reason," Sharma stated in a recent interview. "Sometimes, the perfect role finds you at precisely the right moment, and my experience with Dhurandhar feels exactly like that divine alignment." His journey to securing the part, however, was not straightforward and required significant resilience.
Sunil Sharma reveals an initial setback where he was not selected for the role despite undergoing a formal look test. "At that initial stage, I did not have a substantial beard, which was likely a factor," he shared candidly. "After waiting for about a month, the feedback I received was not positive, and it seemed the opportunity had passed me by."
An Unexpected Second Chance
The narrative took an unexpected turn when fate intervened. "Later, I coincidentally met the casting director once more," Sharma explained. "By that time, my physical appearance had naturally evolved due to my involvement in a South Indian film project. The casting director appreciated this new look. I was asked to give another look test, and that second attempt is ultimately when I successfully secured the role of Shaukat."
Learning that the film was being directed by the acclaimed Aditya Dhar and featured an ensemble cast including superstars like Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Akshaye Khanna made the opportunity profoundly special for the actor. Despite being part of such a large and distinguished cast, Sunil focused intensely on bringing authenticity and depth to his character.
Focus on Authenticity and Valuable Lessons
"I dedicated myself to refining Shaukat's body language, perfecting his dialogue delivery, and mastering subtle facial expressions to make the character feel genuinely real and relatable," he elaborated. "Extensive rehearsal sessions and in-depth discussions with the creative team were instrumental in shaping and polishing the final portrayal."
Sharma also shared invaluable professional lessons he absorbed during the filming process. A key insight came directly from director Aditya Dhar. "Aditya sir imparted a crucial lesson: dialogues are not always the most important element in a scene," Sharma recalled. "The manner in which you perform and inhabit a scene often carries far greater weight. That philosophy has stayed with me and influenced my approach to acting."
Furthermore, observing veteran actor Akshaye Khanna on set provided another masterclass. "From Akshaye Khanna, I learned the immense power of restraint and subtlety in performance," he noted. "Silence and minimalism can be incredibly potent and effective tools on screen, sometimes conveying more than words ever could."
