Actor Swastika Mukherjee, renowned for her work in Bengali cinema and Hindi projects such as 'Paatal Lok' and 'Qala', has recently disclosed that she will be unable to cast her vote in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections in 2026. Speaking candidly, she shared that her name is absent from the voter list and she failed to complete the necessary formalities in time, continuing a frustrating issue she has been grappling with since 2024.
Recurring Electoral Hurdles
Swastika revealed to News18 Bangla that this is not the first time she has encountered such a problem. Back in 2024, both she and her sister Ajopa Mukherjee were unable to vote. While Swastika had misplaced her voter ID card, her sister, despite possessing valid identification, also could not exercise her franchise, raising concerns about discrepancies within the electoral system.
Discussing the situation, Swastika stated, “I am certain that my name is not on the voter list. To get my name included, I have to make calls to certain individuals and remain at home during that process. I did not have the time or the opportunity to do those things.” She expressed hope that the issue would be resolved before the next election cycle.
Past Frustration Shared on Social Media
In 2024, the actor had also taken to social media to voice her disappointment. “While I lost my Voter ID card, my sister Ajopa has her I-card and she voted last year. This year, our names are not there on the electoral roll. I have never seen anything more disgusting than this,” she wrote, highlighting her dissatisfaction with the system.
Swastika further pointed out inconsistencies in the voter list, stating, “Not only our parents but other elderly individuals, who are practically immobile, are on the list. People who have not been alive for years are still listed. But our names are not there.” Her remarks draw attention to potential flaws in maintaining updated electoral records.
