In a beautiful romantic ceremony that seemed straight out of a movie, Bengali actress Tanusree Chakraborty tied the knot with Atlanta-based IT professional Sujit Basu on Wednesday at the stunning Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas.
A Fairytale Wedding in the Desert
The intimate wedding ceremony took place against the breathtaking backdrop of Red Rock Canyon, creating a picture-perfect setting for the couple's special moment. Speaking exclusively to Calcutta Times right after their nuptials, the newlyweds shared their joy and the beautiful journey that led them to this day.
The wedding was meticulously planned by Sujit himself, who wanted to make every detail special for his bride. From arranging the makeup artist to hiring a violinist - knowing Tanusree's love for the instrument - and curating a special menu, Sujit personally oversaw everything to ensure the day was perfect.
From Friendship to Forever
The couple's love story began two years ago in Kolkata, where they were introduced through mutual friends. Tanusree recalled their first meeting with fondness, saying, "Something just clicked between us from the very first moment. I still remember meeting him right after a rigorous gym session - in a tee and track pants, not exactly my most glamorous moment."
Sujit was equally smitten, admitting that Tanusree had his heart from the minute he saw her. What started as friendship gradually transformed into courtship, though much of it happened virtually after Sujit returned to the United States.
During Tanusree's vacation to the US, the couple spent quality time together, and as the actress shared, "Somewhere amidst long drives, shared sunsets and quiet conversations, I realized I was falling in love with him. And the rest is history."
Personal Touches and Special Surprises
The wedding was filled with thoughtful touches that made the day uniquely special for the couple. Tanusree was overwhelmed by the arrangements Sujit had made, revealing that even the lehenga she wore was chosen and bought by him as a surprise.
Understanding the importance of family blessings, Sujit organized a special live screening of the ceremony for Tanusree's parents, sister, and his relatives in India, ensuring they could participate in the special moment despite the distance.
After the wedding ceremony, the couple celebrated with a romantic candle-light dinner at an iconic rotating restaurant in Vegas, marking the beginning of their new life together.
What They Love About Each Other
When asked about what makes their relationship special, both had heartfelt responses. Sujit described Tanusree as "beautiful inside out" and praised her passion for her craft, honesty, kindness, and grounded nature. He particularly appreciated her natural empathy and even mentioned her exceptional cooking skills, especially with Bengali dishes like egg tarka, shukto, and muri ghonto.
For Tanusree, Sujit represents safety and home. She expressed, "Even thousands of miles away from home, with my family so far, being with him makes me feel at home - like I belong here. He's incredibly caring, endlessly loving, and with him, I never feel alone."
Future Plans and Honeymoon
The couple is currently in their honeymoon phase and taking a well-deserved break. Tanusree revealed their immediate plans: "I'm planning a trip for Sujit in Florida, Orlando. It'll be our honeymoon, Sujit's birthday and Christmas all rolled in one trip."
Regarding her career, the actress confirmed she's taking a temporary break from work to focus on this new chapter of her life. The couple hasn't decided yet whether they'll settle in the US, move to Kolkata, or find a balance between both locations, planning to make that decision in the coming year.
Throughout their relationship, Sujit has shown his romantic side, sending bouquets to Tanusree's film sets when she was shooting in Kolkata and Mumbai for a film with Sunny Deol. He continues to win over her family by sending Bengali sweets to her mother, a gesture that has made him the beloved "boro jamai" (big son-in-law) in the family.
Despite living in the US since 1997, Sujit has maintained strong connections to his Bengali roots, which helped him connect naturally with Tanusree's work in Bengali cinema. As the couple begins their married life, they're focused on cherishing every moment of this magical phase and building their future together.
