The final episode of the acclaimed series 'The Boys' is just hours away from delivering a blood-soaked conclusion. As anticipation builds, showrunner Eric Kripke has dropped a crucial hint about the plot, revealing a heartfelt Easter egg for fans of 'Supernatural.' The beloved character Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, had his final moments in Season 5, Episode 7, and Kripke confirmed he wanted one last parallel before bidding farewell to the actor.
Eric Kripke Bids Goodbye to Soldier Boy with a Heartwarming Nod
Discussing the scene where Soldier Boy mentions "fixing up the Impala," Kripke expressed his desire for one final reference to the long-running series 'Supernatural.' Ackles worked with Kripke for over a decade across 15 seasons of the thriller show, and their tight-knit bond paved the way for a cherished reunion in the darkly satirical drama 'The Boys.'
"Knowing that that was going to be Jensen's last scene in the series, we wanted to put in one last reference. Honestly, [writer Anslem Richardson] wrote, and we shot that it was a Ford. It was, 'Working on the old Ford,'" Kripke said in an interview with Collider, before referencing the car 'Impala' that Dean Winchester drove throughout all seasons of 'Supernatural.'
Kripke added, "The danger of having (director) Phil Sgriccia and I, sitting next to each other in editing, which we would do, was that we were watching it and Phil was like, 'Should it be 'Impala'?' And I was like, 'Yeah, it should definitely be 'Impala',' and Jensen happily joined the team."
