Initially, single bench judge PT Asha ruled in favor of the makers, directing the CBFC to issue a U/A 16+ certificate. However, the CBFC appealed against this order, prompting the Jana Nayagan team to move the Supreme Court, which subsequently sent the case back to the Madras High Court for further consideration.
