Veteran Indian Actor Vineet Raina Set for International Debut in Nigerian Film
After more than two decades in the entertainment industry, Indian television actor Vineet Raina is poised to make his international cinematic debut. The seasoned performer, with over 23 years of experience in showbiz, has been cast in the upcoming Nigerian romantic comedy On Different Grounds.
A Cross-Cultural Love Triangle Project
The film, directed by Mildred Okwo and produced by Nicolette Ndigwe, features Raina in a prominent role opposite former Miss Ghana titleholder Abena Akuaba. Describing the project, Raina revealed, "The film is a love triangle that explores the complexities of relationships. I am proud to represent the Indian film industry on an international platform."
What makes this venture particularly exciting for the actor is the potential for future collaboration. "What makes it even more exciting is that we are planning to shoot the sequel in India. I hope all permissions and grants come through," he added, expressing optimism about bringing the production to his home country.
An Unexpected Opportunity from Overseas Popularity
The opportunity emerged unexpectedly through the international reach of Indian television content. Raina's popular shows, including Maayka and Punar Vivah, were telecast in dubbed versions in Nigeria, where Indian programming enjoys substantial popularity similar to its reception in Indonesia.
"When I visited in mid-2024, I was surprised to be recognised at a restaurant," Raina shared. "Around the same time, a friend suggested my name for the project, and after doing their research, the team felt I was right for the role."
Overcoming Challenges in a New Environment
Adapting to the Nigerian film set presented certain challenges for the actor, who has an extensive portfolio including shows like:
- Vaidehi
- Maayka
- Do Hanson Ka Jodaa
- Godh Bharaai
- Yeh Hai Mohabbatein
- Udaan
- Choti Sarrdaarni
- Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai
The language barrier required particular attention. "There was a language barrier, so I trained using YouTube to get the accent right," Raina explained. "I did have initial apprehensions, but I enjoy taking on challenges."
Professionalism and Discipline on International Sets
Working with an international crew left a strong impression on the veteran actor. He noted the exceptional discipline maintained throughout production. "Communication across departments was extremely efficient and often happened wirelessly in whispers," he observed.
The set maintained a particular atmosphere conducive to focused work. "There was a certain silence maintained on set, which helped actors focus on their lines and rehearsals. Most challenges were resolved before the actors and director reached the floor, so you would hear nothing except them."
Raina concluded with admiration for his colleagues' dedication: "The passion, discipline and professionalism were truly impressive, and it reflects in the final show." This international project marks a significant milestone in Raina's career, bridging Indian television with global cinematic collaboration.
