Yash Defends 'Female Gaze' in Toxic Trailer Amid Intimacy Backlash
Yash Supports Director Geetu Mohandas Over Toxic Trailer

Actor-producer Yash has addressed the backlash over the portrayal of intimacy in the trailer of his upcoming film Toxic, coming out strongly in support of director Geetu Mohandas for bringing a 'female gaze' to an action movie.

Yash on Female Gaze in Action Films

“That’s the most exciting part. So what happens is that when you generally say action films, it’s only restricted to male directors. That’s been historically (true) in India. A large-scale action film, that too a gangster film with a female gaze, is something very new and refreshing,” said Yash.

Despite mixed reactions, Yash stood by Geetu's creative choices and added, “Thoughts are very clear, and she has a strong conviction in whatever she does. And she’s a fabulous writer. I could learn so much. The desire quotient or certain emotions, romance or sensuality, how a female can show, a woman can present, is entirely different, which is what I’ve realised in this journey.”

Controversy Over Intimate Scene

The film has been under scrutiny for its bold depiction of an intimate scene in the trailer, which has drawn sharp reactions, with many calling it 'excessive'. The National Christian Federation also filed complaints, citing that the trailer had hurt sentiments.

Yash's defense highlights the importance of diverse perspectives in filmmaking, especially in genres traditionally dominated by male directors. The actor remains confident in the director's vision and the unique storytelling approach of Toxic.
