Bridgerton's Yerin Ha Reveals Experience Filming First Intimate Scene with Luke Thompson
Australian actress Yerin Ha, who portrays Sophia Baek in the upcoming fourth season of the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, has candidly shared details about filming her first-ever intimate scene with co-star Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict Bridgerton. In a recent interview, Ha opened up about the emotional and professional journey involved in such a pivotal moment for her character.
A Process of Surrender and Trust
Yerin Ha described the experience as one centered on letting go rather than overthinking. She emphasized the importance of surrendering to the moment and confronting any fears head-on. "I think it's about surrendering and feeling the fear," Ha explained. "If I had blocked it, it would have bubbled up in other ways—not necessarily negative—but I feel it was just a true sense of surrender and trusting that there are people around me who are going to take care of me and guide me and make sure that it's going to be good. They're not going to want to make me fail."
Credit to Co-Actor and Set Environment
Ha credited both the supportive environment on set and her co-actor, Luke Thompson, for making the scene less daunting. She highlighted how shifting perspective from viewing it as an intimate scene to a story-driven moment helped ease the process. "When you have a co-actor who you can really trust, and you shift the perspective from it being an intimate scene to a story scene, it actually becomes way less daunting," she said. "It's more like they have to do this because they just couldn't hold it in anymore. It's almost like in a musical—you start singing when there are no more words to express how you're feeling. It's like that, but with the love and passion that these two characters have."
Focus on Work Over External Factors
Despite being part of a globally popular Netflix show, Yerin Ha insists she does not dwell on the possibility of fame or external pressures. She prioritizes her craft and mental focus, viewing any recognition as a by-product of her dedication. "There are already so many psychological obstacles that I have to think about. If I start thinking about external factors, I'm not actually putting my energy in the right place, which is into the work and doing the best I can. And as a by-product, if that happens—sure, great," Ha stated, underscoring her commitment to authenticity and performance.
This insight into Ha's approach offers a glimpse into the meticulous and emotionally resonant work behind the scenes of Bridgerton Season 4, which continues to captivate audiences with its blend of romance and drama.
