De De Pyaar De 2 Maintains Box Office Dominance Despite Challenging Phase
Ajay Devgn's romantic comedy sequel De De Pyaar De 2 has completed a steady two-week run at the domestic box office, continuing to outperform newer releases despite showing signs of slowing down. The film, which serves as a follow-up to the 2019 original, has maintained its position in theaters even as two new films attempted to challenge its dominance.
Week Two Performance and Collection Breakdown
The movie wrapped up its first week with a respectable Rs 51.1 crore collection. As it moved into the second weekend, the film recorded Rs 2.25 crore on Friday, followed by an improvement to Rs 4 crore on Saturday and Rs 4.50 crore on Sunday. These day 9 and 10 earnings proved sufficient for the sequel to surpass the opening-weekend collections of both new releases - 120 Bahadur and Masti 4.
The typical weekday pattern followed with Monday seeing a dip to Rs 1.50 crore, while Tuesday showed a slight recovery to Rs 1.75 crore. Wednesday witnessed a further decline to Rs 1.25 crore, and Thursday maintained the same figure of Rs 1.25 crore on its 14th day since release. This brings the film's domestic total to approximately Rs 67.60 crore.
Competition and Future Prospects
Last week saw the release of two new films - 120 Bahadur and Masti 4 - but both failed to make a significant impact at the box office. Their dull performance allowed De De Pyaar De 2 to continue its box office dominance through the second week.
However, the film now faces fresh competition with the release of Dhanush and Kriti Sanon starrer Tere Ishk Mein, which has generated substantial advance bookings. Trade analysts predict that from Friday onwards, the collections for De De Pyaar De 2, along with 120 Bahadur and Masti 4, are likely to see a further decline.
Despite its consistent performance, industry experts suggest that crossing the Rs 100 crore mark appears increasingly unlikely for the known romcom franchise. The film had opened to approximately Rs 8.75 crore, and while its first Saturday and Sunday numbers showed an upward trend, the expected sharper spike fueled by stronger audience chatter never materialized.
Given the current trends and the noticeable slowdown in collections, the film's journey toward the coveted 100 crore club seems challenging, raising questions about the performance of established franchises in the current market scenario.
