Dhurandhar Faces Box Office Slowdown on 50th Day Amid Border 2 Competition
Filmmaker Aditya Dhar's blockbuster Dhurandhar has experienced a significant slowdown at the ticket window as it completes 50 days in theatres. The Ranveer Singh-starrer has been impacted by the release of the new film Border 2, facing reduced screen counts and declining footfall across major markets.
Dhurandhar Box Office Collection Day 50: Lowest Single-Day Earnings
Dhurandhar managed to rake in approximately ₹55 lakh net on its 50th day domestically, marking the lowest single-day earning for the film since its release. This represents a substantial 50 per cent drop from the previous day's collection of ₹1.1 crore net. The film's total net business in India now stands at an impressive ₹831.05 crore, despite the recent downturn.
Occupancy Comparison: Dhurandhar vs Border 2
The occupancy data reveals a clear picture of the competitive landscape. Dhurandhar recorded an overall occupancy of 19.50 per cent on Friday, with gradual improvement through the day:
- Morning shows: 8.46 per cent occupancy
- Afternoon shows: 21.36 per cent occupancy
- Evening shows: 23.32 per cent occupancy
- Night shows: 24.84 per cent occupancy
In contrast, Border 2 dominated theatres with 32.10 per cent overall occupancy on its opening day, showing stronger performance across all time slots:
- Morning shows: 19.46 per cent occupancy
- Afternoon shows: 26.33 per cent occupancy
- Evening shows: 34.55 per cent occupancy
- Night shows: 48.06 per cent occupancy
Screen Reduction and Regional Performance
Dhurandhar's presence in theatres on Day 50 was visibly curtailed as shows across key Hindi markets were replaced to accommodate the release of Border 2. The film was left with limited show counts in major centres:
- Delhi NCR: 143 shows
- Mumbai: 106 shows
- Bengaluru: 80 shows
Several other regions nationwide were left with fewer than 50 shows. Interestingly, cities like Chennai (40.33 per cent) and Hyderabad (37.33 per cent) saw better occupancy rates, likely due to the limited number of shows available.
Meanwhile, Border 2 showed a wide presence on its opening day with massive show counts in the same circuits:
- Delhi NCR: 1,538 shows
- Mumbai: 1,022 shows
- Ahmedabad: 799 shows
- Pune: 448 shows
Industry Analysis and Future Prospects
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh commented on the situation, noting that Dhurandhar celebrates 50 glorious days in theatres – a remarkable achievement in today's times when most films run out of steam within the opening weekend itself. He stated, "The film has braved multiple new releases week after week since its debut, yet continues to stand tall at the box office. From today onward, it faces a major challenge in the form of Border 2. It will be interesting to see how Dhurandhar withstands this new opponent, despite a reduction in screens and shows."
Looking ahead, Dhurandhar will soon make its OTT debut after wrapping up its theatrical run, providing another revenue stream for the successful film that has already created box office history with its sustained performance over seven weeks.
