Dhurandhar Crosses Rs 1100 Cr, To Re-Release With Revised Version
Dhurandhar to re-release with revised cuts after govt directive

The cinematic juggernaut 'Dhurandhar', directed by Aditya Dhar, continues its unprecedented dominance at the box office while simultaneously navigating a significant last-minute edit. The film, which has shattered records since its debut on December 5, 2025, is now preparing for a re-release with a revised version following directives from the Indian government.

Box Office Records Tumble

'Dhurandhar' has proven to be an unstoppable force in the theatrical arena. On its 27th day in Indian cinemas, the film's collections soared past the monumental Rs 720 crore mark domestically. Its global earnings are even more staggering, having crossed the Rs 1100 crore threshold worldwide. This phenomenal performance has allowed it to surpass the lifetime collections of major hits like 'Pathaan', 'Jawan', and 'Chhaava'.

Headlined by Ranveer Singh in the role of an Indian spy infiltrating a terror outfit in Pakistan's Lyari Town, the film boasts a powerful ensemble cast. This includes Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi in prominent roles, with pivotal contributions from Naveen Kaushik, Saumya Tandon, Naseem Mughal, Danish Pandor, and Gaurav Gera.

Government Directive Leads to Re-Release

Despite its commercial triumph, the film has not been without controversy. A section of the audience labeled it as propaganda due to its political undertones. This has now translated into official action. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, cinema halls nationwide received an email from distributors on December 31, 2025.

The communication informed them about the replacement of the film's Digital Cinema Package (DCP). A source revealed that the revision was made "as per the directives received from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India." The changes involve muting two words and altering one dialogue in the film.

An insider specifically disclosed that one of the words removed from the new version is 'Baloch'. Exhibitors were instructed to download the updated version and screen it starting January 1, 2026.

Global Reception and Future Plans

The film's dream run in Indian theaters contrasts with its fate in the Gulf region, where it faces a comprehensive ban. Nevertheless, its domestic success story is far from over. As 'Dhurandhar' approaches its one-month anniversary in cinemas, its re-release with the revised cut is expected to fuel further interest and box office revenue.

Looking ahead, the makers have already scheduled the next chapter of this franchise. Part two of the film is slated for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026, indicating strong confidence in the property's enduring appeal.

The situation underscores the complex interplay between blockbuster entertainment, political narrative, and regulatory oversight in contemporary Indian cinema. While 'Dhurandhar' reigns supreme as a commercial powerhouse, its journey reflects the nuanced challenges films can face when operating at the intersection of art, commerce, and state policy.
