Thousands of volunteers, including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, participated in a massive Yamuna clean-up drive across 28 ghats in the city on Sunday. The campaign, aimed at restoring the river's health, saw enthusiastic participation from citizens, NGOs, and government officials.
CM Leads by Example
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta joined the cleanliness effort at Geeta Colony Ghat, where she personally helped in removing garbage and debris. Speaking to the media, she emphasised the importance of collective action in reviving the Yamuna, which has suffered from pollution and encroachment for decades.
Widespread Participation
The drive mobilised thousands of people across 28 designated ghats, with volunteers cleaning riverbanks, collecting plastic waste, and planting saplings. The event was part of the Delhi government's ongoing 'Clean Yamuna' mission, which includes long-term measures like sewage treatment and industrial waste management.
Local residents expressed hope that such initiatives would lead to a cleaner and healthier river. The government has announced plans to hold similar drives regularly to maintain the momentum.
