Varun Dhawan's family entertainer 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' has made a solid start at the Indian box office, emerging as the clear winner among this week's new releases. According to early estimates on sacnilk, the film earned an estimated Rs 7.50 crore net on its opening day across 9,081 shows. With this, the film's Day 1 gross total performance is estimated at Rs 9 crore, while the film earned an additional Rs 2 crore from international sectors, thus pushing its worldwide gross total past the Rs 10 crore mark, to earn an estimated Rs 11 crore.
'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' vs 'Bandar'
The strong opening has given the film a comfortable lead over Bobby Deol's 'Bandar', which also arrived in cinemas this weekend. The film earned Rs 50 lakh net on its first day from 1,365 shows, with its India gross standing at Rs 60 lakh.

Meanwhile, the Ram Charan starrer 'Peddi' also had a wide release this weekend. The film which was also released in Hindi, earned an estimated Rs 3 crore net on Friday. The Hindi figures contributed to the film's overall total net collections of Rs 51 crore. The film that had a multi-lingual release, earned Rs 47.20 crore from just its Telugu release while Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada contributed a total of Rs 80 lakh.

As per trade reports 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' benefited from an aggressive promotional strategy ahead of release. The makers partnered with a booking app to offer moviegoers a special First Day Offer, providing a flat 50 per cent discount of up to Rs 200 on tickets purchased for opening day screenings. While the scheme may have lowered the average ticket price, it is believed to have significantly boosted footfalls and helped drive occupancy across theatres nationwide.

The film's Day 1 numbers are particularly encouraging given that it has a production budget of Rs 50–55 crore. A strong first-day turnout could help generate positive word-of-mouth and strengthen the film's theatrical run over the weekend.
