Lionsgate has officially set the release date for the upcoming 'Rambo' prequel film, 'John Rambo', which is scheduled to hit theatres on June 4, 2027. According to Variety, the action film will debut just weeks ahead of Sony's 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse' (June 11) and Warner Bros.' 'Oceans' prequel (June 25).
Origin Story Before 'First Blood'
'John Rambo' serves as an origin story, taking place before the events of the 1982 classic 'First Blood', which starred Sylvester Stallone and launched the iconic franchise. The series follows John Rambo, a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran haunted by his Vietnam War experiences, who later uses his combat skills to fight corrupt law enforcement, enemy troops, and drug cartels.
Cast and Crew
Noah Centineo takes on the titular role originally played by Sylvester Stallone. He is joined by David Harbour as Major Trautman. The supporting cast includes Yao, James Franco, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White, and Tayme Thapthimthong in key roles.
Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander, known for 'Sisu', directed the project from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Producers include Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Michael Disco. Executive producers are Sylvester Stallone, Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier, and Amanda Presmyk.
