The Kerala Story 2 Box Office Collection: Film Nears Rs 20 Crore Mark After Holi Surge

The Kerala Story 2, which released amidst significant controversy last weekend, has reportedly gained strong momentum at the box office. The film's performance received a substantial boost from the Holi holiday on Tuesday, propelling its total gross collections close to the Rs 20 crore milestone.

Day 5 Collection: Holi Holiday Provides Major Boost

According to industry tracking reports from sacnilk, The Kerala Story 2 earned an early estimate of Rs 4 crore on Tuesday, March 25. This represents nearly double the film's Monday collection of approximately Rs 2.5 crore. The Tuesday performance matched the film's weekend numbers, which consistently hovered around the Rs 4 crore range.

Week 1 Box Office Journey: From Slow Start to Strong Recovery

The film's theatrical journey began quietly on Friday, March 21, amid confusion surrounding court proceedings that initially barred its release before ultimately permitting it. This legal uncertainty resulted in a modest opening day collection of around Rs 75 lakh.

However, once news of the film's release circulated online, box office numbers saw an impressive increase. Day 2 (Saturday) brought in an estimated Rs 4.65 crore, followed by Rs 4.75 crore on Day 3 (Sunday).

With these figures, the film's net collections through Sunday reached approximately Rs 16.65 crore. The gross collections have now nearly touched the Rs 20 crore mark, with current estimates placing the total at around Rs 19.75 crore.

It's important to note that these numbers reflect only the India release of the film. Overseas box office data has not yet been reported.

Director Vipul Shah on The Kerala Story 2's Creation

In an interview with PTI, producer Vipul Shah addressed the decision to create a sequel to the controversial original film. "There was no plan to make even 'Kerala Story 2'," Shah revealed. "But after 'Kerala Story 1', we started getting lots of stories. I realised that there is a much larger evil persisting not just in Kerala but across the country, and we have to tell this story because it is much bigger and different than what happened in 'Kerala Story 1'. That's why we decided to make part 2."

Shah emphasized that the sequel wasn't conceived as a marketing strategy. "It was not like a marketing gimmick that, 'Let's make part two, it's a good brand, let's take it forward'. No, nothing like that," he stated clearly.

Film Content and Context

Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, The Kerala Story 2 depicts the narratives of three Hindu women from different Indian states who defy their families to marry Muslim men and subsequently face forced conversion. The film continues the controversial themes explored in its predecessor while expanding the geographical scope beyond Kerala.

The box office resurgence during the Holi holiday suggests that despite—or perhaps because of—the ongoing controversy surrounding its subject matter, the film has found an audience willing to engage with its content. Industry observers will be watching closely to see if this momentum continues through the remainder of the week and beyond.
