Parasakthi Faces Steep Box Office Decline on First Monday
Sivakarthikeyan's latest film Parasakthi has encountered a significant drop in its box office performance. On its first Monday, which marked the third day since release, the period political thriller managed to earn only ₹3 crore. This figure represents a massive 70% decline from its Sunday collection of ₹10.1 crore.
Three-Day Collection Figures Reveal Mixed Performance
The film opened strongly on Saturday with ₹12.5 crore, making it the highest single-day collection so far. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Parasakthi's total domestic box office collection after three days now stands at ₹25.6 crore. The movie opted for a Saturday release instead of the traditional Friday opening to avoid direct competition with H Vinoth's action thriller Jana Nayagan.
Jana Nayagan, which was being promoted as Thalapathy Vijay's final film, faced postponement due to certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification. This scheduling decision gave Parasakthi a clearer opening window, though the film continues to face competition from other releases.
How Parasakthi Compares to Sivakarthikeyan's Previous Films
Parasakthi marks Sivakarthikeyan's lowest opening performance in two years. His previous release, the 2024 sci-fi action comedy Aayalaan directed by R Ravikumar, earned ₹13.95 crore in its first three days. This amount is almost half of what Parasakthi has achieved during the same period.
The actor's last two pan-India releases performed substantially better. Rajkumar Periasamy's 2024 period war drama Amaran collected ₹61.55 crore in its first three days, while AR Murugadoss' action thriller from last year earned ₹48.15 crore during the same timeframe.
Director's Previous Work and Current Competition
Despite the Monday drop, Parasakthi has outperformed director Sudha Kongara's last release. Her Bollywood directorial debut Sarfira, starring Akshay Kumar and released in 2024, managed only ₹12 crore in its first three days. Sarfira was a remake of Kongara's own 2020 Tamil film Soorarai Pottru.
Parasakthi continues to face competition from Maruthi's Telugu horror comedy The Raja Saab, starring Prabhas. The film has earned ₹113.40 crore across all languages in its first four days, though its dubbed Tamil version has collected only ₹1 crore.
Certification Challenges and Release Strategy
The film faced its own certification hurdles with the CBFC until the very last minute. On the eve of its scheduled release, the makers agreed to implement 25 cuts suggested by the board. They made this decision to secure a Pongal release date, especially after Jana Nayagan's release was put on hold.
This strategic move allowed Parasakthi to capitalize on the festive season, though the Monday numbers indicate the film will need strong word-of-mouth to maintain momentum through the coming days.
