The Malayalam horror-comedy film 'Sarvam Maya', starring Nivin Pauly and Aju Varghese, is demonstrating remarkable staying power at the Indian box office. Even after nearly two weeks in theatres, the film's momentum shows no significant signs of slowing down, having successfully crossed a major financial milestone.
Steady Collections Defy Weekday Trends
According to data compiled from industry sources including the Sacnilk website, 'Sarvam Maya' has amassed an impressive Rs 52.85 crores in net collections within India over its first 12 days. The film laid a formidable foundation in its opening week, collecting approximately Rs 35.1 crores. The following weekend proved exceptionally strong, with Day 9 (Friday) bringing in Rs 4.85 crores, Day 10 (Saturday) seeing a slight uptick to Rs 4.9 crores, and Day 11 (Sunday) delivering an excellent Rs 5.75 crores.
This powerful weekend performance propelled the total to around Rs 50.6 crores by Sunday night. Despite the typical dip experienced on a weekday, the film managed to add another Rs 2.25 crores on its 12th day, which was a Monday, comfortably pushing it past the Rs 52 crore mark. This resilience indicates strong word-of-mouth and sustained audience interest beyond the initial release hype.
Healthy Occupancy Points to Continued Appeal
The film's robust performance is further evidenced by its theatre occupancy rates on a weekday. On Day 12, 'Sarvam Maya' recorded an overall Malayalam occupancy of 25.64 percent. While morning shows began at a modest 12.89 percent, attendance improved in the afternoon to 20.13 percent.
The real strength was visible in the later shows. Evening screenings saw occupancy jump to 29.99 percent, while night shows were the most popular, recording a strong 39.54 percent occupancy. This pattern suggests the film remains a prime choice for evening entertainment, even during the work week.
Cast, Crew, and an Actor's Grateful Heart
Directed by Akhil Sathyan, 'Sarvam Maya' blends horror and comedy genres, a mix that has clearly resonated with viewers. The film features Nivin Pauly in the lead, with crucial support from Aju Varghese, Preity Mukhundhan, and veteran actor Janardhanan.
The movie's success has deeply moved its lead actor. In a heartfelt interview with Manorama Online, Nivin Pauly expressed overwhelming gratitude for the audience's affection. He admitted he never fully grasped the depth of emotional connection people felt towards him until this release. "I realise it when I read the messages sent by people I know and by complete strangers," he shared.
Pauly recounted a particularly touching moment when his mother called him after watching the film in a theatre. She asked, "Son, do people love you this much? Even I can’t believe it." This personal anecdote underscored the public's reaction for him.
The actor concluded with a promise to his supporters, stating, "I stand with folded hands, not knowing how to repay this immense love... All I can do is move forward with them by making films that make them happy." He vowed never to take the audience for granted again, marking this box office journey as a profoundly personal and professional milestone.
