Suriya praises Dhurandhar, calls it a masterpiece

In a significant show of cross-industry admiration, acclaimed Tamil actor Suriya has publicly hailed the Hindi spy thriller Dhurandhar as a "masterpiece". The star, along with his wife and actress Jyothika, took to social media platform X to extend heartfelt congratulations to the film's team on its monumental success.

Suriya's Heartfelt Appreciation for the Team

Suriya's post was directed at director Aditya Dhar, thanking him for creating the cinematic work. He expressed being completely blown away by the craft of the film. The actor reserved special praise for his longtime friend R Madhavan, marveling at his transformation for the role. He also congratulated lead actor Ranveer Singh and co-star Akshaye Khanna on what he termed a "very deserving blockbuster." The message, signed "Love, Suriya & Jo," quickly garnered widespread attention, highlighting the unity and mutual respect within the Indian film fraternity.

Director Aditya Dhar's Grateful Response

Director Aditya Dhar, who previously won acclaim for Uri: The Surgical Strike, responded with deep gratitude. He described himself as "grateful beyond words" for the encouragement from Suriya, calling it an honour and a source of inspiration. This exchange underscores the high regard that creative leaders from different regional film industries hold for each other's work, even without direct collaborations.

Performances That Stole the Show

The film's success is heavily attributed to its powerful performances. Ranveer Singh's portrayal has been widely recognized as one of his most controlled and impactful roles to date, marking a powerful return to intense storytelling. R Madhavan's physical and emotional transformation has deeply resonated with audiences, while Akshaye Khanna's understated yet commanding screen presence has earned consistent praise.

Dhurandhar's Staggering Box Office Journey

Dhurandhar has cemented its place as a commercial juggernaut. The film has achieved the remarkable feat of crossing the ₹1,200 crore milestone at the global box office within its initial theatrical run. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, its India net collection stands at approximately ₹754 crore after 30 days.

While domestic collections have naturally tapered, the film shows sustained strength overseas. It has amassed an estimated ₹267 crore gross from international markets in 29 days. Trade analysts are now keenly watching to see if it can breach the ₹300 crore mark internationally, a rare achievement for Indian cinema.

With a worldwide gross of ₹1,204.15 crore in 29 days, Dhurandhar is now the second highest-grossing Hindi film of all time and the first Hindi release to cross ₹1,200 crore so swiftly in its global run.
