'The Mummy 4' has taken a major step forward with an earlier release date and the confirmed return of its original stars. The next installment in the beloved franchise will now hit theaters on October 15, 2027, almost a full year ahead of its previously scheduled May 19, 2028 release, according to Deadline. That original date will likely be used for another film.
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Officially Returning
Brendan Fraser will reprise his role as Rick O'Connell, while Rachel Weisz returns as Evelyn Carnahan. The pair had been in talks, but their involvement is now confirmed. No official announcement has been made regarding other cast members from the original trilogy.
The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence, who co-wrote the script with David Coggeshall.
History of 'The Mummy' Franchise
The original 'The Mummy' debuted in 1999 and quickly became a beloved adventure classic, launching a franchise that spanned nearly a decade. It was followed by 'The Mummy Returns' in 2001, with Fraser, Weisz, John Hannah, and Arnold Vosloo all returning. The third film, 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor', arrived in 2008, with Fraser and Hannah returning but Weisz absent; Maria Bello played Evelyn instead.
Another Mummy Film on the Way
'The Mummy 4' is not the only mummy-related film in development. Director Lee Cronin is working on a separate mummy film set for release next spring, starring Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, and May Calamawy.
With two mummy films in the pipeline, audiences will have multiple opportunities to revisit the genre. For fans of the original franchise, 'The Mummy 4' arriving on October 15, 2027, with Fraser and Weisz back in their iconic roles, is the news they have been eagerly awaiting.
